Plot of land near Sandon Road/balancing lake

Walking round the balancing lake I was looking on Google maps to see what houses backed on to it and saw a quite substantial plot of land, that I couldn’t see from the path, it seems to cut through 8 gardens of residents of Sandon Road, seems a bit odd really as I am sure all of them would prefer a larger garden. Does anyone know what the land is, or any background to it?

Yes I believe they tried to get access from Tenby Drive but residents managed to block it.

I'm surprised it's still not been approved to be honest. I understand the neighbours point of view but I objectively it's a perfectly reasonable place to develop.

The problem is getting heavy construction equipment onto the site. Tenby Drive is very narrow and the land at the end of the road where the traffic would need to turn is liable to subsidence as the end of the road is considerably higher than the land on the nature reserve and is only shored up by a crumbling wall. I understand that the bungalows at the end of Tenby drive needed very deep foundations/underpinning to ensure there was no subsidence. This seems to be an issue that the builders or the Highways Agency are unwilling to face.

Sorry to sound like a 'Nimby' but given the potential access problems, and the disruption that it would cause to what is a local nature reserve, I would be delighted if the current plans for buildings never came to fruition! not my 'manor', but have walked around the area many a time, either waiting for car tyres to be repaired at County Tyres on Astonfileds, walking with clients, feeding the ducks or twitching!

The pools and Marsh have some interesting Flora due to being slightly saline. Salt Water this far from the sea? As has been on here plenty of times, and I am sure many are aware, Stafford has a lot of salt beneath it. It used to a salt works up near the common,. Cows in Doxey Marches used to be white with salt having gone in for a dip. I work at Saltbank Court and tne mineral's name appears in many places around the town!

The, now wooded, area to the west of the field, where the base of the red arrow is, was built up in 1990 with the dredged mud from the bottom of the two balancing ponds. The levels were altered over the whole site*, between the old railway line and Astonfields Road, without taking any material away. The excess mud was piled up there and, one might hope, has stiffened up a bit over the years - the roots will help, also. The dams and spillways were added to and improved at that time, too.

* with the exception of a small area of 'salt-marsh', very rare this far inland.

When I said it wasn't a unreasonable place to build houses I was imagining 3 or 4 at the most, 7 is just silly.
