I painted the bird-hide many years ago and left a particularly good graffito uncovered, as it seemed a shame to paint over it. There was some criticism of that decision, but there was very little additional graffiti for some months afterwards..
In that case, if you but knew it, you almost certainly met my very lovely dad! He was one of those involved in getting the area turned into a nature reserve as part of work that was done by Severn Trent (I think) to try to prevent the town flooding. From then on, he did all the working parties to build things, dredge things and paint things. When he wasn't building, dredging or painting, he was down there watching the birds and inwardly tutting at the dog walkers.

Nothing of huge interest today, though at one point there were seven cormorants on the dead willow opposite the hide, which seems like rather an excessive amount of cormorants to me.

Did see a snipe -

- the first i've seen in many years.

Being on the wing, and moving at a fair clip, it wasn't possible to determine whether it was a jack snipe rather than common, but suspect it was the latter. Still, a snipe is not to be sniffed at, common or not. :)

5 Quick Questions

Except that two of the ones that aren't included in the five require an answer.

If i'm not too mistaken, that would be seven quick questions?

Either way, regardless of maths failures it is still quite quick.

Little ringed plover -

- a first for me, though apparently they are often to be seen there.

Two pairs of shelduck -

- looks like there'll be more breeding from them this year.

Also warblers (i think they were willow ones, but warbler ident is not one of my strongest suits) and buntings.

All most very lovely. :)

PSA

Don't recall if it has been mentioned elsewhere, but the big hide on the marshes now has a locked door on it. You need to call SWT for the code to get in.

Not having any means to do so earlier i could not, so did not. Which was a shame.

Was still very lovely, though no sight of the Black Swan.

I've only just spotted that this thread is in the 'Pubs and Eating Out' section. :?: Maybe @Admin could move it?

Edit - Done.

You weren't the fella who gave me a heads up about a particular bird spotted in the water on that morning, were you? 😅
I don't think there was much to point out on that day to be honest, but I do regularly point stuff out to people on Doxey Marshes.
