The 9th Stafford Beer & Cider Festival is taking place at the Blessed William Howard School from Thursday 28th July to Saturday 30th July, It is hoped that there will be over 80 beers & more than 30 ciders.

Instead of just drinking at the Festival why not volunteer to work at the festival, volunteers get all sorts of benefits. Apart from working while the festival is open help is also needed in setting up and taking down the equipment. Without volunteers there would be no festival. There is a staffing form at -

The main web page is

Apparently Fownes Brewery (Gornal) are going to launch their new beer at the festival - Soul Forger, a hoppy citrus ale. The rest of the beers might include those listed on the Drinks/Food -> Beer tab on the festival website.

Cider, perry, country wines and bottled beers also available.

Really begining to look like a beer & cider festival now.

9 Perries from Barbourne, Broadoak, Double Vision, Gwatkins, Hurstview, Olivers, Ross on Wye, Snailsbank, Westons.

21+ Ciders from Broadoak, Celtic Marches, Double Vision, Dunkerton, Gwatkins, Gwent y Ddraig, Hecks, Hurstview, Olivers, Richs, Sheppys, Snailbank, Westcroft, Winkleigh.

There are 34 perries & ciders in all, but not all are on the list I have.

Bottled beers, around 18 continental & British, including beers from Westmalle, Budvar, Fruh, O'so, Brewdog, Church End, Dark Star, Hop Back, Marble, Thornbridge, Salopian, Lakefront, Wild.

Country Wines, Apricot, Birch, Blackcurrant, Cherry, Cowslip, Cranberry, Damson, Elderberry, Ginger, Plum, Raspberry, Sloe & Strawberry.

Mead, Garden, Tournament, Traditional, West Country

Oh, and around 82 cask ales, including the odd gluten free beer. Opens 6pm tomorrow.

Will be attending this evening...as this is pretty much my first beer festival, I'm not entirely sure how it works.....I understand the £3 entrance fee, but whilst inside....do you just help yourself to Ale and Cider or is there a fee for each drink sampled?

I know this may sound stupid to ask, but I was just curious thats all.

You can get a card with "tokens" on it that are crossed off as you spend them - it avoids cash transaction issues all night.

Like G said, you get a card where each square is worth 10p. Last night for a tenner you got entrance, your glass and £6 worth of tokens, but its usually a bit more to get in Friday/Saturday. You then spend these tokens on drinks (1/3 or 1/2 pints), although they let you taste stuff first to make sure you'll like it. I had about 7 drinks last night, and tasted three more I wasn't keen enough on to commit to. You can buy more tokens at any point from the entrance, any unused tokens at the end of the night are generally put in a charity box, up to you though.

As far as I know the gluten free beers this year are -

Wold Top - Against the Grain. Golden ale 4.5%
Allendale - GFPA. Pale ale 4.7%
Hop Back - Crop Circle (Bottled beer). 4.2%

As a warning the bottled version of Crop Circle is a gluten free beer, the draught version cannot be guaranteed to be gluten free

Reports suggest that on the cider front the Snailsbank Pineapple & Pink Grapefruit (????) may be running low.

Low? The lass from the Market Vaults finished most off last night! The rhubarb one is also good though :)
