Castletown Parking

@ blueshirt:

Cllr Mark Heenan attended the meeting of the Castletown Residents' Association last week. We discussed the current situation and explained our near-despair to him. The latest from the County Council is that the process is moving along slower than had been hoped, so that the scheme is expected to be starting next summer. This lead the members of the CRA to decide on starting its own scheme whereby residents will soon be able to get a window sticker to put in their car in order to show that they are a resident. This won't make a huge difference, but it will show other residents that at least the owner of that vehicle also lives in Castletown. It has often been expressed by residents that if at least they know that a car belongs to other residents it makes a big difference. The CRA is currently looking into costing and distributing the stickers. Given that the railway station car park is set to close at the end of the month this scheme seems to be the best possible course for the time being.

Should help to avoid any guerilla attacks on cars belonging to genuine castletown residents at least :ninja:

Thanks for the information. I hope that the CRA scheme works but I don't think it is going to stop people parking in Castletown even when they do not live there. However, all power to your elbow in getting it up and running. Cllr Mark Heenan should be arguing stronger for the scheme - the officers are giving him the runaround. He has not got any power or clout!

Can you not ask the council to send the parking nazis round anyway, and you set up the badges yourself? Surely they'd love a change to hit their quotas easier?

Andreas - have you heard anything about Castletown parking scheme. They begin building station car park in October which means nowhere for commuters to park in the meantime. Did Mark Heenan get back to you.
Nope! Not a sausage. Rather disappointing.

Castletown Residents' Association Parking? It's a heavy load
Arf. A few months back I was asked to create a flyer by a couple of disgruntled Castletown residents which they could pop under the windscreen wipers of certain offending vehicles, the title of which was C.R.A.P. I had a conversation with another resident yesterday regarding the same thing, so there may well be some more printed off in the near future.

When living in the smoke it was the norm that some days i'd have to park a full 5mins walk from home to where i had to park the car. This didn't bother me in the slightest it's just the way it was, so from Castletown if you can find a parking space in a 5mins walk then just park your car there...........

When I was in the Smoke they had parking spaces all over the shop and they were all in black and white

If you watch the Ealing comedies you can spot them on there

So, back to Castletown Parking then... I don't understand the whole notion that there are more consultations to be undertaken with residents. I thought we had done that already??

Is there going to be another consultation then? I thought we had done that already and got a high percentage in favour of the scheme. What is happening now?

Has Sofa heard anymore from Cllr Mark Heenan who stated that he wanted the scheme up and running by Christmas? Do we know what is the holdup? Has the change of Council meant that this is not such a priority?

The process to implement the residents' parking scheme is proceeding, albeit a little slower than most in Castletown would like to see. We do appreciate that these things take time, what with planning consultations and the like. Cllr Mark Heenan attended a meeting of Castletown Residents' Association at the beginning of September, chaired by yours truly, where he listened to many examples of parking difficulties. He also brought the news that the scheme is not expected to be up and running before spring or possibly summer 2010. In light of that news the Association is looking to introduce its own scheme to provide residents with identification to put in their car window, so at least other residents will know that that car belongs to a fellow resident.

I'm interested in buying a house in Castle Town but the parking situation is very off putting - do you think these permits will definitely go ahead? Seems to be a lot of stalling going on!!
