Castletown Parking

In fact I'd go as far as to say that the location of castle town would be a major selling point, particularly to someone who is sans transport.
Not being funny, but it's Castletown, not Castle town.

Good job you spotted that one, i reckon another 10 minutes of this tectonic shift in the space between words and the earth could have spun off it's axis into the sun... :teef:

Ok he's pretty new to it, but that doesn't excuse not responding to an email I sent to him on the 22nd July regarding the matter!
Sorry if I've let this one slip but as far as I can remember I've responded to every email I've had about Castletown. If you could send it again to mark.heenan[at]staffordshire.gov.uk I'll try and answer as best as I can.
Ah...I sent my email to your cllrmheenan account, as advised by you in an earlier post here.

One pass per household...
To my knowledge a "one pass per household and one visitor" rule was never on the cards. As I understand it the plan is to allow for one per household, then for second cars and visitors, etc. Remember, the residents of many of the houses have no cars at all leaving a few more for those with two cars.

According to the figures from the recent surveys there are around 1.3 residents' cars to 1 parking space. At the moment there are dozens of people parking here every day to avoid paying at the station or in any of the other car parks.

Often, on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, parking in Castletown is a doddle. The problem simply is not how many cars Castletonians own, but our little parish being used as free parking for the thousands of people who visit the town centre every day.

Residents have been waiting over 25 years for this and it is great that it is finally happening. Most residents are confident that once the parking scheme is up and running motoring life will become considerably less stressful in Castletown. I would say now is a good time to move to the area, because once the parking scheme starts it is bound to be reflected in property prices, not hugely, but it will add a couple of grand on to any property, I'd imagine.

Thanks for the complete clarification Sofa.

Haven't managed to get to CRA meetings for a couple of months and your comments have really helped.

Out of interest where would I stand as a local tradesperson if I was going to look at a job or working on a job in the area?

Front page story on today's Express and Star. A Forumite is taken to task by a County Council spokesman who urges residents 'not to take matters into their own hands'.

Mmmmm..., seems like it's going to take most of another year of being left in the Council's hands.

eh? do they mention the forum? was someone caught doing something they shouldn't, or is it just that a conversation was had and this warning was given during the course of it?

The Residents' Association site is mentioned, but not the Forum. Mr Harris is quoted as saying 'We are going to start publishing photos of inconsiderate parking as well as forwarding them to the police' He goes on to mention uploading videos to YouTube.

If people don't start taking notice after this... I believe there is more to come in the papers tomorrow...

To set the record straight, Jeremy Herbert at the County Council is a thoroughly nice bloke who I had a really good chat with this avo. Not wanting to appear ungrateful for the publicity, the E&S were clearly wanting to report something with a bit of conflict, so they phoned Jeremy Herbert and said something along the lines of "angry residents want to start posting videos of people parking in Castletown", without giving him a copy of my press release. Mr Herbert probably thought we were about to go aggro-video-vigilante, but as I assured him there is intention to do anything of the sort.

Check out the new Castletown R.A. blog for more details.

Good news for Castletown, and well done to the residents association, although I'm dreading the impact it will have on Forebridge the residents aren't so proactive here on the southside.

However, excellent that at least some of the town residents are being treated with respect at last, it makes a heart warming change.

All the more reason to make sure the Castletown Parking Scheme is perfectly formed before being rolled out. Cllr Mark Heenan and I are meeting with the County Council peeps next week to help make that happen.

This is my worry. I have been parking there for a few months now as are many others. It is safe for other users, the road is wide and there are no parking restrictions. An increase in car parking in the area will mean it is investigated.

A parking scheme needs to implemented onto Castletown, for sure. However, the negative of these schemes is that it pushes the car into other areas causing problems for the existing Status Quo.
