The same people in the UK who complain about experienced hobbyists flying multirotor drones saying they are dangerous are currently in their gardens launching explosives with sticks attached over heavily populated areas and think it's fine! Bloody hypocrites, may their next sh~t be a hedgehog with big ears holding a pineapple :D

Ahhhh, I've got people on my Facebook sharing links to petitions for banning fireworks. Then the next post is them checking in to a display!

Just looked at them and one is. The other is a petition to ban fireworks full stop. As they scare animals and young children, but they are at a display themselves!
Ireland and Chile are the two places with the hardest line on fireworks, They basically ban public possession and use, except for really weedy indoor stuff. Licensed displays still happen to some extent, though a good bit less than here, and the odd illegal bang will be heard now and then, too. I don't see a great deal of change happening here, unless somebody uses legal explosives for a terrorist act at some point.

Fireworks won't be banned because the shops would lose too much money from the loss of sales. Politicians need their parties funding.

Extremely well said. Couldn't have put that better myself @perry081064

I like the idea of drones but your firework argument is flawed.
I am not aware that many fireworks have cameras attached to them

@bigbluewolf beat me to it with his answer.

@Really? are you aware not all Multirotors have cameras Attached anyway ? , one of mine can be used in sport mode for racing as well as aerial photography .

Everything is relative though isn't it ? For every idiot messing around with fireworks there a probably equal proportions or idiots doing silly things with drones, like trying to get too close to planes landing at airport...

Yes but if you banned drones because of a few idiots you'd have to ban cars, bikes, pedestrians etc. for the same reason as well.

I agree , for that very reason there are measures built into the firmware of most of the multirotors that could manage to remain in the air and fight the air turbulence an aircraft could create .
they create "no fly zones" and render the multirotor disarmed and unable to take off , also if theres say an air ambulance in the area , the multirotor would not be able fly into that area or would be pushed out of it.
as for airports , it usually creates a 5 mile radius block.
these safeguards are now in place around football stadiums and various venues too.

of course , once a multirotor pilot becomes licenced , they can apply to have certain restrictions removed.

don't believe everything you see in the news or on casualty ;)

I also find it difficult to find any sort of equivalence between the two.

They do different things, and the objections to the different things that they do are entirely different.

Not that i mind either of them particularly, but not to put too fine a point on it - a firework is highly unlikely to take an unflattering picture of me in my pants, but is much more likely to make me shit in them.

Apples and Oranges.

I think perry's main point was that typically people that moan about the SAFETY of drones are happy to light fireworks - which I agree is a bit ironic. Someone mentioned that fireworks don't have cameras attached - but the photography side of drones is a different thing altogether than the safety.

@perry081064 I've considered buying a pre-owned phantom FC40 again for a few reasons. I'm over the photography side of a drone now (which the FC40 did suck at) but I really do miss just having a fly. The later phantoms are now all engineered towards slower acceleration, elevation etc as they are designed with videography in mind, but the FC40 was so much more fun to fly. Very nippy indeed. It could also descend far more rapidly than others around today. My son has recently bought a 4k drone (can't think of the brand) and acceleration is absolutely rubbish - worst thing I've ever flown in that sense. I'll end the derail of this thread though before I send it off topic. ;)

Actually, as we're discussing drones vs fireworks - the results of mixing the two are EPIC. This is great to see if you've never seen it before. It takes a brave person (or complete idiot) to send a ££££ drone up in fireworks but getting to see this makes it so worth it I suppose.

The sky is a big place, you might be unlucky enough to be hit, but you could get away with it.

In WW2, the principle German flak weapon was the 88mm, a fairly accurate and efficient device, but a study suggested that it took around 3,500 shells to actually bring a plane down.

It must annoy events that spend several thousand or more pounds on huge firework displays... then suddenly a drone appears and everyone starts watching that instead :D
