Coffee Machines.

I know nothing about these pod machines other than they seem to be in every hotel room I stay in on business and the coffee they produce is OK but nothing special. Presumably when you say prices are 3 for £10 you mean three packs of pods rather than three individual pods?

I much prefer a traditional coffee machine with beans etc for taste as well as the coffee making experience but each to their own and the pods are definitely better than the freeze dried Nescafé/Kenco muck.

Yes three packs of 16 pods for £10. I'm a Starbucks addict as @Goldilox will confirm and although they aren't as good as his coffees were they aren't far off and a damn sight cheaper than a daily Starbucks fix.

I love my Tassimo. I tend to buy in bulk from Tassimo web site. I have to say I hate the Oreo hot chocolate, it smells like dirty dish cloths.

How do I edit this?
Sure I read on here someone trained as a barrista say a while ago not to waste money on expensive coffee machines and go for good quality beans, freshly ground and a cafetiere.
Makes sense to me, pre packed pods of processed coffee surely can't be as good as freshly ground.
Tea drinker myself so prepared to be shot down on this one.

It may have been me. Generally the issue with any kind of home espresso set up is that no one at home drinks enough espresso to keep a machine well adjusted & working at it's best. Also people like to experiment with different sorts of coffee, but there's no point putting a lot of exciting single-origin beans through an espresso machine as you're unlikely to taste their best qualities.

I don't work in the industry anymore, so I'm probably out of touch, but at home I've swapped over to single cup filters of the sort you find at Bean Encounter, or Urban Coffee in Birmingham &, of course, freshly ground beans which gives you a fantastic cup of coffee, even if it's a month since you last made one.

My dislike of pod machines is down to the fact that you're tied to a single company's range of coffee & whatever kind of margin they want to charge on it. Your £200 Tassimo machine might as well be a door stop if Douwe-Egberts went out of business tomorrow & if you do get a steal on some Jamaica Blue Mountain you will have to find another way of brewing it...

Of course, as we all know, Service Station Coffee is available 24 hours a day.

I live with @Goldilox and I'm complicit in this non fuss, very little waste delicious coffee making method but I've used my fair share of pod machines (Nespresso & Tassimos) and I think it depends on what you like, and how often you make coffee. If you're making coffee for more then one person I find them super annoying - much more waste and time taken then grinding some coffee and just making a cafetiere (lots of plastic / pods etc - and each one takes time to make individually) - If you're the only person who drink coffee in your house (or office etc and you don't want to deal with washing up) and you don't mind the waste / extra cost / being tied in to a system (and I've had fine results with non branded nespresso pods - which is handy since I boycott Nestle products where possible) they their fine.

We have a bank of Nespresso machines in work but I still prefer my morning cup out of my little one cup cafetiere, even if it takes longer and requires more washing up - but I've some supermarket own brand pods in my draw for coffee based emergencies.

Well, it's been purchased, not used yet as it's a birthday gift for another.

At £34.99 i'm not concerned about it being a waste of money, as i can tick the yes, i've had a coffee pod machine and be done with it.
Not concerned either with the material waste, i've travelled and seen enough to notice that little-old-me, can not contain the wave of waste produced elsewhere, to bother containing my small amount of waste, life's too short.
No concern for the being tied into a system either, i have very little choice of getting out of such systems in day to day life, so just go along with the ride.

Here's to that first mug of coffee, from a tiny, convenient and possibly great tasting pod!

If you like flavoured coffee, I've got a Tassimo and buy my syrups from here
Delivery is a bit expensive at £4.95 but if you buy the Monin syrups you can get the large 70cl bottles for £5.95 which last for ages as opposed to the smaller 25cl that they sell in the supermarkets for approx £3 or £4 so if you bulk order your favourite flavours it can work out quite a bit cheaper

Please forgive me for being a bit fik (perhaps more than usual), but, erm, where's the syrup go?

Yes, I tend to find enough to cover the bottom of the cup is sufficient but you can add more or less to your taste
Just remember to give the drink a quick stir before you drink it as otherwise the flavour will all be at the bottom

A little off-thread, syrup users favourite flavours?

I'd opt for a caramel, or something a little nutty.

Thought about getting one of those 'pod' coffee machines but which one to choose? Which make of the 'pods' are most wildly sold? No use buying a machine that you cannot get the pods' for?

Little hypothetical D, so, what if they don't stop selling the pods?
I'd just go for it, buy a cheap(er) one first and then see how it goes.
Mine was only £34.99.
