Examples of poor driving you have witnessed!

I was required to go to Stoke today. There was a wide load needing both lanes of the A500 - it was a fairly light, though large, item, so the driver was still managing to do 40mph in the 50mph zone. People were still trying to over-, and under-, take it.

And, running a red light in order to stop in a box junction, thus blocking an ambulance with blue lights on seems to regarded as OK....

No prizes for guessing the makes of car involved...

Utter, utter pair of wankers on my way home tonight. Some old, ahem, person, pulled right out on me whilst coming from broad eye across the roundabout towards Doxey. She was in a small light blue Fiat 500 type of car. Just after that, heading towards Simply Bilash, a not so old person cut me up (KC15 LCP?) at the Sainsbury's mini roundabout. Is the light on my bike helmet, the rear and front lights on my bike not enough you clueless bunch of farking arsewipes.....aaaaand breathe.:help:

My "favourite" one at the Broadeye roundabout happened some years ago - I was cycling towards it along Tenterbanks and, just as I reached the bend before it, a Transit pickup pulling a trailer came hurtling of the roundabout, launching a five gallon drum of hot tar out of the trailer and straight at me. At this stage, I was trapped by the "safety" railings, and, even if I had got over them, the boiling tar would have just come straight through at me. Luckily, someone in a car behind me had just decided that the extra six inches of width available in the road there meant that they could overtake - and they collected the drum under the side of their car - phew!

Still, it went some way to resurfacing the road, I suppose.

In answer to your query above, I suspect that they do see you, they just don't care much. I've never been hit on a bike by another vehicle whose driver didn't see me.

On my last cycle home from work, I saw my first marked police car since I took up cycling again in late August. I got quite a good close-up view given that the driver overtook far too closely and in the face of 3 oncoming vehicles.

I expected better from Stafford's finest. I've been reassured they are trained to the highest standard. It's funny, but I've never had anything but the standard standard when it comes to driver training and I can quite honestly say I've never overtaken a cyclist like that.

Quite honestly if the powers that be took infractions against vulnerable road users more seriously*, people would be encouraged to cycle and help alleviate the costly congestion on our roads. I think it could pay dividends in terms of helping the local economy.

Of course, some people will argue an entirely separate infrastructure is needed for cyclists, but not only is that costly... I don't think most town planners know how to create such an infrastructure that actually works. Roads are generally surfaced to a higher standard, cleaner and they get gritted too.

I'd also like to give a special mention to the wazzocks who like to try and overtake me when I'm cycling down Radford Bank. Either it's congested and I'm following the vehicle in front at a safe distance, or it's moving and I'm cycling at just over 30mph.

*NB didn't commit such infractions themselves and perhaps occasionally catching other motorists in the act and giving them a stern talking too.

The days of coppers driving properly are long gone. They're no better than the general run these days.

Your one might have been the same one that actually hit me with his door mirror and pretended that he hadn't noticed....

Kudos to the convertible Beetle towing a trailer this morning - contrary to normal German car standards the indicators were used where appropriate - it was just unfortunate that the trailer's ones were operating opposite to the car ones....

I was heading north on the A34 towards the top of Yarlet Bank, in the 60mph zone, doing about 55mph. A red Focus overtook me at about 60 - then suddenly spotted the camera and braked sharply, thus dropping back some way behind me. We proceeded down the bank in the same manner, me at 55, them at 60ish, they gently overtook me again, at the same 60mph, having never left the right-hand lane since we joined the road at Redhill. They passed me again just before the camera at the bottom came into their view (with a 60mph sign a few yards in front of it). An even harder brake test was performed here. They never quite caught me up again.

I turned off at the Filleybrooks, I couldn't stand any more.

Has that camera at the bottom of Yarlet bank ever gone off?
