Chico's Mexican in Stone

Slightly off track here but perahps of interest to mexican lovers. The other night I put some left over chilli in tortilla wraps, poured barbeque sauce over and topped off with plenty of smoked cheese, 30 mins in the oven, a cheap tasty tea.

I recommend series III of Fresh Meat

Loved the food but thought it was overpriced. . Stafford needs a good Mexican!

About 10 years ago there was a Mexican in Stafford by the cinema, I think where Narvana is now.

For some bizarre reason they had a miniture electric train at ceiling level going round and round and round and round.

Cadillac jack's?

Wasn't the sun a Mexican once? And another place on east gate street, possibly the shrew?

You're right - The Sun was a Mexican for a short while, and painted a garish red colour, Tequilla Red.

And the Shrew was - again for a short while.

I only got to eat in TR twice, both times the food was great and lots of it. I visited the shrew once and was less impressed, iirc we had to wait ages and it was fairly bland.

I quite like a bit of chilli now and then, but I'm not going to make any great effort about it. The history of failure of Hispanic food outlets in Stafford is such that we might have to put up with going to Stone for it now and then. Or utilising the odd special event, such as the Mexican Night that the Post House did a while back. There's been at least four, maybe more, attempts and they've all ended in early collapse.

Mexican food is my favourite, it even beats curry if done well. The main problem is if in a group curry is an easy win, many don't think they like Mexican as they expect it all to be spicy.

We went to Chico's for the first time on Wednesday on the way back from going to the cinema in Newcastle under Lyme and had a lovely meal

I had the beef chilli taco shell for starter and the cajun chicken burrito for main. Both delicious, perfect level of spice, very generous portions and great friendly service. We'll definitely be returning again soon

I have a couple of issues with chicos, one is that they offer two sittings, 7 and 9 (unless this has changed) and 8 is the better option. The other thing is the dishes are very samey, basically the burritto, enchilada and the chimichanga have the exact same filling. I have used them a lot as there isnt an alternative. I used the one that was in Narvana a few times and it was excellent, as was tequila red.

This summarises my feelings about the place exactly.

Does anyone know if this place is still open? Their website is down, their telephone rings out to an answerphone and they don't reply to their facebook page?
