Reported it to the police the other day as youths were hanging round the place and I was concerned that if someone decided to torch the place that the shell garage would go up too.

The back window had been put through, so looks like they've secured the property. Also suggested as it looks like an elderly person lived there, they could have easily died in the property, as it was never put up for sale OT anything before the windows started to be put through.

surely it would smell though if somoene died there?

Depends, there's not really neighbours and it's next to a busy garage and road so there's going to be a mix of different wafts in the air around that bit - also you're average old person might not have that much on them to decompose - which is what causes the smell. The right atmospherics can 'mummify' corpses fairly quickly.

That house had been empty since before 2009.

Past 2 christmases I have seen someone removing some items from the back of the house, I'm assuming it was the owner or a member of the owners family.

Last year it was sold at auction. Seen the interior pictures, no furniture inside and looks like where the kitchen was, everything had been removed.

So to get to the point, no-one would have been living there when the incident took place.

I thought that i saw a For Sale board there a few weeks ago but may have imagined it.

One possibility is that the person living there has been jailed. There have been 2 reports of people from that street in court. It's not a big street either.

The house belonged to the well known Clewlow family
Harry Clewlow, Painter and Decorator etc owned it until he died in 1963
Esther Clewlow lived there all her life 1920-2015, she never married
The house was inherited by Harry's decendents

AN EMPTY house near Stafford town centre has been cordoned off following reports of criminal damage and youths congregating in the area.

Police were alerted to antisocial behaviour at the property in Eccleshall Road, near Nursery Lane and the A34 roundabout, on Thursday.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Glass had been broken at the property close to Nursery Lane and patrols visited to check the premises.

"Following a further call to the property on Friday the new owner of the property was contacted so boarding up could take place to secure it.

The building has charm, is part of local heritage and could easily be renovated and brought back into use.

But this is Stafford, so it has to be demolished. And all the trees around it cut down. And the road will have to be closed while they do it, in case the demolition itself does not cause sufficient interference.

I though it looked an eyesore before being boarded up.

One has to ask, why owners let buildings get that way
