One advantage with all weather pitches .....

We (Birmingham Uni's American Football team) were due to play at Bath University tomorrow. Last week, their game against Swansea was described as a mud-bath and I suspect tomorrow's game had it gone ahead in Bath would have been the same or worse. Anyway, it sounds like their groundsman has declared the pitch unplayable (they're usually a bit precious about their pitches this time of year), so the game's been moved to our 3-G pitch in Edgbaston ..... saving me around 2 hours driving and back. We'd better win - we didn't in November, our 'home' game.

Was wondering when it was going to start after they put those gates up. Is that from an official source or just a guess

Destruction begins after the May bank holiday

Say farewell to our green and pleasant land
I did this on Thursday - one last look if time will not allow another.

I saw a Snipe, the first i've seen for many years, which was nice. And a very noisy Plover - not quite sure which kind, looked 'Little' and was probably therefore 'Ringed', but Plovers are not generally my 'line', so to speak.

Oystercatchers, Shelducks, GC Grebes, Martins, Swallows, Reed Buntings + all the usual suspects - all very lovely.

The clang of the gate behind me tolled like the bell for last orders as i left.

Now i am a little bit saddened.

Does anyone know who has purchased the triangle of land between Blackberry Lane and the Isabel Trail?

Well there will be a need for one of those to rid the Marshes of the pesky, profit denting wildlife.

Visionary and entrepreneurial.

So it sounds as if their little rugby club - with similar usage to the current site they told us - will have an even bigger car park.

Being a local resident I am still to be convinced on all access and parking issues, so that will have to stay as "pending".
However, Mr Lennon tried to give some assurance, in person on a few points a couple of weeks ago so all I can do is take his word.
The area that the pitches and club are going onto is the highest part of land and also consists of a gravel and sand base, according to surveys, so this should not only help with drainage, but also help avoid flooding if the waters rise. The area it is all being developed on is an area likely to be described as a flooding occurrence of one in over 100 years. Certain parts of the site have already been worked on and this will help preserve some of the wildlife. The car park will also have a camber or gradient that will help the water drain away towards the marsh rather than back towards houses.
I'm note sure if this is in print anywhere but thought I'd share it.
