In amsterdam you can't touch the bread, you use a long spoon type thing that you manoeuvre through a hole in the front of the perspex case to flip the desired baked goods out the side where you can retrieve them.
They're like that in Greece. A great idea, it's like playing something off the generation game trying to get a bagel out.

Excellent customer service from SCS sofas avoiding what could easily have been a "cuffy" post instead. Issues with delivery of vinyl floor on Friday, the chap who sold it to us a couple of weeks ago drove to collect it from the depot and bring it back to store for us; then rang when we forgot to collect it (hungover, oops) and helped us load it into our car when we were sure it wouldn't fit. Top bloke.

I accidentally ended up in there with @Andreas Rex on a forlorn carpet hunt once, during the Lichfield Road traffic chaos. Having ascertained that they couldn't service our requirements, we had a bit of a general chat and were furnished with information on Stafford's carpet underworld which has proved very useful to me on several occasions since.

Sounds very like the same bloke...

carpet underworld
Great name for a shop?

Obviously, you would need to be fully vetted before that information was made available - suffice to say that this remains my first port of call when floor coverings are needed.

JB Carpets on Greyfriars - in the 'elevated' shops opposite the old dole office - top people.

New stair carpet - quality item - tremendous price - fitted very neatly, almost immediately and with less than no fuss - always worth a look to see if they can do what you want.

Just be ready for the fact that you'll feel like you've accidentally blundered into a 'shop' which is really just a front for something completely different. Just stay in character as a carpet-buyer and you will still end up with a great deal.

Not Lidl's fault specifically, but massive cuffy to the Muslim lady who not only picked up fresh cakes from the display tray using her fingers instead of tongs, but who then proceeded to remove extra nuts from the remaining pastries and drop them in to her bag. In the process of doing this she handled almost every remaining cake. Dirty dirty woman. I did confront her about what she was doing and how disgusting it was. Food hygeine had clearly escaped her.

Spoke to the cashier and she said it was a common occurrance for customers not to use tongs. Avoid the open pasty/bread section in Lidl is my advice. Plus, someone might have sneezed all over it :(
not good

Big recommendation for The Greyhound at Yarlet, we went tonight and had Steak and Ale Pie plus a Beef
Bourguignon. Both were some of the nicest meals we've ever had and it's rare for me to say that!

Price not bad either. Menu was pretty varied too.

PS. If this doesn't belong in here then apologies!

When I came across this kyoto, a number of observations popped into my mind! Firstly I agreed with your observations about this incident that this woman was indeed "Dirty, dirty", and behaved appallingly hygienically speaking.
I am rather intrigued as to how you came to the assertion about her religion! If she told you, or was carrying a copy of the Quran, please accept my apologies; otherwise I am at a loss to explain how you can state she was a Muslim? I can only guess you are attempting to judge by her appearance. If she looked like she may have been of East Asian extraction, she could have been Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Taoist, Shintoist, Christian, Atheist or any one of the plethora of other religions. Sorry but you seem to have proved that if you 'assume' things, you run the risk of making an Ass of U & Me!

As I have said, if you knew that she was indeed a follower of Islam, I apologise unreservedly; though I still do not really see why we need to be told of her faith, it added nothing to the story. Telling us how 'a lady' had behaved would have been sufficient, surely?

There is enough Islamophobia currently polluting our discourse, and I would not want to see it invading this forum!

In short:- what she did was disgusting; her ethnicity, religion, and just about any other details are irrelevant!

When I was last in Amsterdam I saw a similar act in a Perspex case. It too involved a manoeuvre through a hole with a long instrument. It may have been an éclair and a ring donut but I could not swear by it. It was all conducted in a very dimly lit room.

The continuing lack of appreciation for my obvious talents on this thread continues to disappoint me.

I'll humour you with a reply:

Muslim, i.e wearing a shalwar kameez and a headscarf. not any of the other Asian religions, they wear different dress. I described her as Muslim as it was relevant. Had it been a man wearing a turban I would have done the same, or a white Nun, or a black male.

If people want to be Islamophobic, then I believe they have every right to be so. I care not one jot, all religion is bat sh*t crazy to me, I don't discriminate :). But I do believe strongly that everyone is entitled to an opinion and the right to free speech regardless of offense caused. See Stephen Fry for my thoughts on 'offense'.

Happy now? Excellent!

I have to give a massive cuffy award for Mad Hatters Tea Emporium. Very disappointing. Went a couple of months ago and we ordered breakfast. I was surprised that they pulled out a plastic tray of cooked prepared fried eggs from the fridge behind the till (obviously not freshly cooked) and surely that's not safe. It wasn't even that busy. When the breakfasts arrived the eggs were like rubber. Also because they put the beans and 1/2 a tinned tomatoe into individual little ceramic bowls, which have not been warmed up, it makes the food cold. The portions are really measly despite the staggering £6.99 tag. Never went back

Shalwar Kameez are also worn by indian men and women are which there are a multitude of religions.

I agree with Gone2seed it seemed odd to pick that out and try to guess someone's faith for such a subject. I doubt if was a white man or women you would feel the need for such a description.

Enjoying a drop of red.

I already said, if it was a white Nun I would have said so. Picking out someone's religion to describe features is not wrong or racist, no matter how much the politically correct loonies try and convince us otherwise and no matter how much people try and prevent freedom of speech. White Nun, African vicar, muslim female, they are descriptions. Get over it.

It's the blue nuns and the Black Russians you need to watch out for
