Stafford Dog Boarding kennels

We have Minnie booked in for September. Visited and it seemed ideal. Really made is feel ok about leaving her.

I think Chetwynd Firs is an ok kennels, we left our very old greyhound there in the quiet block, but it must be pointed out that exercise on ON lead only. For large or active dogs 2 weeks without a good off lead run is a very very long time, especially when combined with the boredom of kennels. This is true of any kennels without a safe enclosed area where the dogs can free run though, not just Chetwynd Firs. Personally I wouldn't leave my dog without adequate exercise for a fortnight, but he's big and bouncy!!

I just want to mention someone we would not recommend - there is a place opened up called Winfields Wagly Dog Tails in Essington. I used them once and everything was okay (just a short stay) so booked in my fluffy well groomed pooch for two weeks. She had just been professionally groomed so was fairly short haired. When I went to collect her my dog she was in a terrible state. Her legs and under carriage were so badly matted she had to have her legs shaved by our fantastic groomer who agreed to sort her out at 7pm that night. One part was so badly matted that she had an infection which had to be treated (vet said caused by grass that had imbedded under the skin and matted over)

I did ask when booking my pooch in that she needed brushing at least every day (she is a tiny dog and it takes 5 minutes.

When I collected my pooch back I was mortified but very embarrassed and collected her and left. I had to ask for my dog brushes back which had been lost (and they admitted never used) which were found down the back of their cupboard

Also her brand new fabric dog bed had obviously been used by the black Labrador and was flattened and wrecked.

The reason I liked them is because they had a field attached to the house - so felt this was secure.

I would never use them again .

I share your concern on that kyoto and that is yet another reason why i use Chetwynd firs. They have a "play area" where the dogs can get an extra half hour play off lead every day. If you check out their Facebook page you will see they post pictures of the dogs at play.

Thought I'd share our recent experience.

Our usual Kennel (New Buildings Farm Board Kennels (www.newbuildingsfarmboardingkennels.co.uk) were full for May Half Term when we recently called so we went on the hunt for somewhere for our 5 year old Greyhound, very much aware that time was against us.

We arranged to visit Hawthorn Boarding Kennels (http://www.hawthornsboardingkennels.com/) on Sandon Road, Beaconside. I should of guessed how it would be by looking on Google Maps at the satellite photos....Not a single blade on grass on site with everything crammed out the back of the house and very small pens to exercise the dogs in. It didn't smell very nice and the dogs wouldn't stop barking. The cost was £12 per day.

The next day we went over to High Offley near Woodseaves to visit Kozee Kennels (http://www.kozeekennels.co.uk/) The place was incredibly impressive. The kennels were set in massive grounds with a supersized fenced field to exercise the dogs twice a day. The owner built the kennels themselves after retiring from JCB and the kennels themselves we well sized with underfloor heating, and motorized shutters to allow air circulation during the day. We couldnt be more impresed with the way they had the place setup. Their attention to detail was great to see, including a seperate room with individual cabinets for the dog's food and other items (you always see this just dumped by the kennel itself)

They only charge £11 per day (collection day is half price if collection is done before midday) and luckily for us they still had space in May Half term. I think we've found a hidden gem !!
