I had rubarb gin and rose lemonade in the star and garter pub w'ton road on thurday night, The gin was a double and the rose lemonade comes in a little bottle with enough for another drink. Cant' be doing with pretentious crap of 'we dont have' or ''we dont do it' surely tonic water and soda water are a mixer for most drinks. The customer is always right. Get some in if someone has asked for it, dont' argue with them at the bar however drunk they are, it's not good customer service and other customers will witness the poor customer service. Never beat your self up about being drunk its part of life.

I had a great evening (perhaps too great...) the atmosphere, setting and everything the the Gin Bar was great - just the bar man was an ass.

To be honest I don't have a clue what the difference is between soda water and tonic water so would have been happy with a dash of that instead but his attitude was 'It's not on the menu - you can't have it - you know nothing about gin cocktails so sit down and shut up'

I ended up in the Swan who made my drink beautifully!

Too late now! I already made a tit of myself !
As long as it was a great one and not one of the long-tailed bastards that bang on your windows for weeks on end.

The fresh air will do you good.

It doesn't seem to be a very common opinion these days but I'm going to say it anyway. If there's only one type of alcohol in your drink, its not an effing cocktail. All the fancy mixers and fruit in the world doesn't make it a cocktail. Its a gin and mixer. And £6 is too expensive for a gin and mixer, no matter how fancy the fruit is.

I disagree ..

..if it keeps certain people away it's value for money

I found this recipe (among others of course). The site I used is www.Yummly.co

Minty Gin Ricky
Ingredients
  • 1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges
  • small handful of fresh mint leaves
  • 3 tablespoons gin
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Club soda
Directions
  1. Put the lime wedges in a highball glass and use a muddler to crush the limes.
  2. Add the mint leaves and gently muddle again. You want to lightly bruise the mint, but you don't want to tear it into little bits.
  3. Fill the glass with ice and then pour in the gin and lime juice. Top it off with club soda. Give it a stir to combine and then garnish with a sprig of mint.
