I took up running at the start of the year beginning with couch to 5k and since completing that in April I've moved onto doing Parkrun in Cannock for the last month or so and recently did my first 10k run in Stone.

What is clear is that my legs and ankles at 43 are not what they used to be (and they were never that good anyway !!).

Can anyone recommend any gym classes etc that may be good to building strength in the legs ? I'm never going to do a marathon (or even a half) however I think its an area I can improve on....

Thanks in advance !

For my recommendation I'd make it Gym & Tonic on the Newport Road. Proper kit, proper instructors and proper training schedules tailored to the needs of the individual, just as it should be. Should it be of interest to you there is a separate "Ladies only" section too. I joined on their recent £2.99 a week promotion so I cannot advise regarding the cost of membership now.

I'm much the same as you, used to love running in my younger days, but over the years with injuries stopped, just starting back now over the last month or so, what I did was use the Spin Bike and Cross Trainer doing HIIT, building up resistance, this will pre-condition your legs then for running, don't even get a twinge from my old knee injury no more.
