What Stafford Really Needs Is More Roadworks

A few posts under my belt
The primary reason for this work is following on from the coroners report recommendations to improve the pedestrian crossing on Westhead Avenue, after my Father's fatal accident on Westhead Avenue on May 5th 2013. Refer to this old post and coroners report note below;

Here is the councils notice:
http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/tra...orks/schemeinfo/stafford/westhead-avenue.aspx
"Narrowing of junction of Westhead Avenue and A518 Weston Road."
"We will shortly be carrying out works to narrow the junction with A518 Weston Road to slow down traffic."

The other work being carried out is secondary.

Trust this explains better.

There was a pedestrian island on Weston Road, near there, for a short period many years ago - it got demolished a few times and disappeared completely shortly after. I think it was probably in the late 1980s, but can't be sure.

Stafford council move quickly don't they. Over two years since a tragic incident and they're just about getting around to making changes.

If a councillors house is on fire do they have months of meetings to discuss the best way to move forward?

I don't understand why anyone complains about roadworks - it's minor inconveniences in the scheme of things - and things take time to design, plan, schedule. Anything that makes it safer for people, or helps utilities in the long run should be welcomed.

Those of us who have to drive through them every single day, getting stuck in traffic every single day, see things from a slightly different perspective :eek:

Get a bike, walk or stop moaning - your choice.
My line of work usually involves having a boot full of crap and often towing a twin axle trailer which together with its load weighs upwards of 2.5 tonnes. I don't really fancy pulling the trailer by hand or with my bike so unfortunately the car it is during the week. :)

Weeping Cross (A513) is a nightmare too. It would appear roadworkers from neighbouring counties have declared Stafford their Caliphate.
