So I'm currently looking to buy my first place, and I saw this one on Rightmove;

I don't know the area near to the Common well at all. What's it like? Am I looking at an area with problems/next to an estate with issues?

My original idea was Wildwood/Baswich as I know that side of town a little better.
If you were thinking of Baswich originally, I would stick with that and steer well clear of the other end of the town.

Hopes…. So, you are back from your mission to save Stafford Town – how did that go? Did you ever publish your masterplan! I know so many of the forum members are eagerly awaiting your pearls of wisdom. I guess we will have to wait a little longer.

You really are one in a million (and not in a good way)! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the north end of Stafford so jog on “Mr Million” (have a think about changing your forum account as this one doesn’t have the baggage of all your pervious posts).

Back on topic… I was born 2 doors down the road @ No. 9 Taplin Close and lived in the Close for 15 years and as a result I can say with knowledge and experience (unlike Mr Million) that this is a good family area to live. Rather peaceful with no through traffic / speeding cars. In general, you get a good solid 1960’s house with front and rear gardens and parking!! For the record, I own many properties in the north end (closest to Taplin being just around the corner in Fernwood) as well as properties in town center and also to the south of the town and can say that there is nothing wrong with the north end of Stafford.

Is HopesDad being a twat again? Says ignored content but I can't be arsed to check.

I live much closer to what is considered the bad bit of the North end, and have never seen any trouble whatsoever. It's very peaceful round here, apart from the recent robberies at stone road shops I can't think of another incident in the last 8 years.

Did you get an update from your mate? I'm trying to find a time to view.

I did take a drive past the other day. The street itself looks nice and was quiet, but obviously next to local authority stuff. That's not a deal breaker on its own, but, inspite what HopesDad, says, there's some advantages to the South side of the town.

She says they've had no problems in the five or so years they've lived there. Nice and quiet, apparently.

I was pleasantly surprised lol. If u drill down there aren't many real nasties in there. Nothing near Taplin either :)

I don't know... a robbery on one street nearby and they only tell a part of the picture. I'm saying that but I also think the stats aren't concerning. The feedback from a neighbour via @proactive is much more useful.

My one draw to Baswich and Wildwood is the strong resale values because of the school catchment.

Viewing tomorrow so we'll see!

That is definitely something to consider.

However, the crime stats are not all they are cracked up to be. If I look up my own area I see there are two quite disturbing incidents. One which involved a woman abusing her husband which was a very, very sad case and can happen anywhere. The other neither myself or my neighbors have any idea that anything actually occurred.

Basically you need to go on what common sense/intuition tells you. If you're not happy, look elsewhere. There's not a shortage of housing in Stafford, north or south.
