I am guessing that by setting up a 'new' business, he would have qualified, under the Borough Council's Rates Relief Scheme (http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/stafford-town-centre-business-rates-relief-scheme3), which only applies to new businesses. I would guess that just a change of name would not have qualified, hence the changes in the type of business.

With the opening of the North Walls car park imminent, I would not be surprised to see the 'new' business drift back to something like the old one. Whether or not you will get chips with your burgers is another matter.

Ok @John Marwood

I shall attempt at a little more clarification.

Perhaps I should have said this...

"One might question whether the owner is interested in making a profit, after all some people open a place for a hobby, something to pass the time. If it makes a profit, great, if it doesn't then it's no big shakes, they have enough money anyway.

It could be of course that the owner would love to make a profit, but just doesn't have any idea of how to make it work"

One could say ( I personally would say) that anyone with a bar/restaurant within a one minute walk from a successful busy theatre should be making a roaring trade.

Added to this, my son runs comedy nights in bars near to The Curve Theatre in Leicester.
There is an area surrounding the theatre, ..... bars, restaurants, cafes, all busy and thriving. All a little different to each other, all complementing each other.
I understand that it's a much bigger area, but the concept is the same.

It could work in Stafford with the same ideas.
@Carole just for my own morbid curiosity, have you ever owned or operated a restaurant, cafe or public house?

Reopened today. Had a quick word with Jonathan.

For the time being he's focusing on the business as a coffee shop, so its just drinks and cakes for the time being. I asked about the burgers and he said he might resurrect them for a quiz night.

Hours are now Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 to 16:00.

It didn't take long to knock the evenings on the head. I love the place but there doesn't seem to be any certainty to what's going on.

I think he needs to invest in some notice boards and place them strategically at the exit to the new car park.

Have noticed the cafe on the corner has picked up a lot Inn the last couple of weeks.

Funnily enough, I suggested he needed to up his game on the promotional side (advertising at key locations / social media); he said it was something he is looking at doing.

Obviously, before he starts investing time and money in promoting his business, he needs to decide what his business is and when it will be open. There is little more frustrating then turning up somewhere and finding it shut, when it is supposed to be open, or that it is not providing an advertised service.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Most businesses do this BEFORE they open to customers.

It returns - as Bank House Coffee - https://www.facebook.com/BankHouseCoffee/

Welcome back everyone!

After a very difficult year and playing around with a number of ideas, I came to the realization that above all else, what is critical is the sense of community. I really want to thank everyone for their support!

So what is going on?
The Bank House will simply be a community focused cafe. Please feel free to treat it as your house, so sit back and relax, meet with friends or write your novel. For myself, I will be simply playing with coffee and offering only light food. Sadly, the kitchen will not be open at the moment.

if you want to use the space for anything, please let me know.

I like Johnathan, he always seems like a friendly chap, if a little eccentric at times. Does he have money burning a hole in his pocket or something?

I suspect an unused premise with no income coming in at all isn't great

I was in there today actually, only actual customer - service was very attentive :keke:
I just love the apple and cinnamon muffins.

Johnathon is doing the mad scientist thing and trialling out some potential business expansions.

I just hope the community that used to regulate it comes back swiftly - it was a bit sad seeing it empty.

"Hi All,
Exciting times at the Bank House. Introducing Chef Diego, Cancun, Mexico, which opened Dos Burritos, an authentic American - Mexican - TexMex restaurant. The menu has a number of old favorites, including the Route 66 & Veggie burger, but also has some lovely additions including burritos and fajitas.
We are open 7 days a week through the festive season for lunch and dinner.
In addition to Dos Burritos, Bank House Coffee is still open crafting specialty coffee and a bakery.
The restaurant is Bring Your Own Booze. So, park at Aldi, 2 hours max, grab some wine and pop over for an authentic TexMex experience.
For bookings, please send a message via Facebook.
Cheers,
Jonathan"

That's not very clever, encouraging customers to drink drive is it?
