You know what I've realised?, it's now impossible to get a decent pair of shoes within the actual town centre itself.

The only real place for guys shoes is Clark's now, n on the whole they're OK, but each pair I get from there seems to last less n they're not as comfy as they used to be. Also the price now seems to be the 100 quid mark for a pair of decent work ones.

Am I just being picky or has anyone else noticed this ?

Just on my way to the shoe shed now.

Husband got a pair of casual shoe things from Decathlon.

Best £10 ever spent.

Told him he won't be getting anything remotely expensive ever again...

More money to spend on nice ladies shoes!

You could pick up a pair of Barkers for that at Slaters.

Screwfix sell brogues for £35. Look smart and with the added advantage of having a steel toe cap and penetration resistant sole.
Highly recommended.

It's a very poor situation for kids shoes... We prefer to go to Brassington Bros in Hanley, proper old school shoe shop and lovely service.

I get my shoes and trainers off the net.

TK Maxx is my go to for shoes - although I've been impressed with the pair of Clarks I've brought for the winter season.

I've just bought a pair of Clarks Funny Dream off Ebay for £30, less than half price in the Clarks shop.

Went to shoe shed in the end, n managed to get a pair of clarks shoes at about a third of the price less than their shop in town. Cushioned base too. Just a shame I have to travel out of the town centre to get some at a decent price. N I could never order offline, I'm one of those who like to try before I buy.

N am I right in thinking Starbucks was a shoe shop? Sure I used to go there as a kid ?

It had a train upstairs, I loved it. Then they sold me an odd pair of Doc Martens in the closing down sale.

Years ago people used to remark that Stafford high street was nothing but building societies and shoe shops.

Incidentally, does anyone remember the 'Pedoscope' x-ray machine in the 'Benefit Shoes' shop in Gaolgate Street ?

Whatever happened to Freeman Hardy Willis?
About half the shops, including Stafford's, I think, became Hush Puppies outlets, the other half being sold to a dodgy bloke who went to jail over it. Some shops went on to become Stead & Simpson for a while.

I went to school with a girl who had three goldfish called Freeman, Hardy & Willis.

I got my trainers from TKM. Wonderful things - adult sketchers with memory foam for £40. It’s like walking on marshmallows.

Seem to have a bit of a grounding problem though. My tendency to get a static shock when getting out of my car has increased.
