Stafford Cinema - ups & downs.

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
Go the odeon festival park, if you like piss and shit on the toilet floor that is. Hmmm pick and mix.
I'll give it a miss, thanks all the same. Plenty of that on the internet, for those who fancy it, without the sordid need to go to Stoke.

I've been to both Stafford cinema this week (Tues, "lego movie", screen one) and Odean Festival Park (Thurs, "Sing" screen 2")

I have to say that while I joke about Stafford Cinema, and I agree that it is under par, I still go there for convenience.

Yes, I know that the seats aren't the best.
I know that the loos aren't the best, but who spends longer than 30 seconds in there anyway ( including washing your hands)?

Once the film starts and presuming that it's a good one, I personally tend to forget my environment and just enjoy the film.

So this week I was meeting up with some family from Stoke so we went to Festival Park.
Yes the seats were better but not massively so.

Ultimately my time is precious so I'd rather stay in Stafford Cinema for convenience and not spend an hour and a half (40 minutes there and 40 mins back) in traveling time just to get a better Cinema experience somewhere else.

However I am massively looking forward to the new Cinema in Stafford.

Because then I get convenience AND comfort.

Youngest and I went to the cinema to see Trainspotting2 (Porno) other week. No the place int bril, but, as @Carole says, it is convenient and I'm not paying out a fortune in petrol and parking etc. I do feel sorry for the staff there, can't be easy knowing they will lose their jobs in a few months time. The lady that sold us the tickets, I presume the manageress(?), was friendly enough without being overbearing. And, when we came out, we were able just walk into 'spoons and have sumat to eat. Sorted.

The article does say 400 seats in total and 6 screens ..... so an average of 67 seats per screen.

So take your pick about what they actually deliver .... 1 x 100 seater plus 5 x 60 seaters, say.

To be honest I think that makes sense. Even when I go to a big cinema, they're only ever full in the first few days of release. 6 screens means more choice, which is progress IMO.
In the last 10 years I've only sat in an almost full cinema twice.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - Stoke Cineworld in the first week it opened.
Dunkirk - Telford Cineworld IMAX

Other than that the rooms have been 10-25% full.

How about a curry cinema, eat a curry watch a movie.
Like at home but out amongst the human people.

Reel Curry House!

Recently visited Telford's Odeon cinema to see IT and I'm pretty sure that their screens are of a similar size with a VIP section in each screen.

It felt a lot better having a smaller screen than a large one. Sound was far better and the screen itself felt a lot clearer and bigger. Looking forward to seeing the lay out on completion.

The Odeon website says each screen holds between 165-176 seats....the Stafford one would be smaller still...

that would include both the cheap seats and VIP section I would imagine?

I just hope they dont have the rock hard seating they had at the Telford screens......after about an hour your arse gets very numb..

Seems like a reasonable move. Fewer people go to the cinema now anyway, and I'm not sure Stafford ever needed a cinema that can hold 800 people.

It's nice to see the project moving forwards and I'm looking forward to it opening.

If the current Stafford cinema had modern seating it's overall umber would be far lower - it's only the fact the seats are packed in like sardines that it has so many.

Disappointed we're still 9 months away from a new cinema mind you!

If they go down the route of the Vue cinema in Newcastle that'll be perfect. Ripped out all the old seats in favour of comfy reclining seats with loads of leg room. Reduced capacity but a much better experience and more likely to get people going there.

Great way to combat people just downloading all the time if the experience is improved.
