Baswich Lane Capacity Improvements

County Councillor John Francis; these sections (of the EDR) have now been formaly deleted from the LDF via the County Council because of funding constraints they would be very unlikely to be built.

SCC say otherwise! Apparently they have not formally agreed this but SBC have gone ahead and taken it out of the new local plan - seems very short sighted to me.

Steve b looks right. Local press states aspects if scc development have been removed due to a lack of a guarntee of completion over the next 17 years.
no specifics or reference to what developments, but as sbc can be fined uniquely failing its local plan duties that could explain it.
as dft of pulled funding on new major routes for stafford in recent and scc have no money for it there is sense. No joined up workings it seems.

This issue has been raised again.

Councillors were asked again about Baswich lane improvement on Thursday, both SBC & SCC say they have no knowledge of any plans for any capacity improvements.

Seems the Beaconside extention will end at St Thomas Mill Farm!

As been said before Baswich Lane over the bridges is not fit for purpose and if it wasn't for the fact that that route relieves the A34 down Radford Bank there would be further restrictions on the route. Yet the councils shy away from straightening the lane to meet up with the Beaconside extension as I imagine the cost to go across the flood plan and build a new bridge over the canal would be very expensive.
Hundreds of new houses have been or are being built around that area yet the infrastructure is not being put in place.

I Find it hard to believe that there are no plans for Baswich Lane improvements, as they've been mentioned numerous times. Will the new Beaconside Extention (now referred to as the Eastern Access Road EAR) simply end at St Thomas Mill Farm?

Back when Beaconside ended at Marston Lane I was "reliably" informed that the EDR would eventually end at what is now the Meadows roundabout at Queensville. Obviously that's never going to happen now.

There have been plenty of 'reliable' routes - since this all started just before WW2.

Cannot get Hydrant way open in time for tomorrow (Weston Rd closed) but might be opened in November. (Dependent on development occupancy - as it's the developers money building it)

All routes have now been unprotected (lack of funds) except the section across the Sow valley!
Many years ago, when a route across between Walton and Milford was being proposed, I had a job reducing some trees for a well-known local objector, who lived close to the proposed route. When the weather became suitable to do the job, he was away for a few days, but that was no hindrance to me, so I arrived and soon had the front garden full of off-cuts from the trees. At one point, when I was a good way up one of the trees, a chap appeared and demanded to know what I was doing. Just for a laugh (I thought), I told him that I was from the Council and we were marking out the centre-line of the new road, but these trees were obstructing the laser and had to come down.

As it turned out, I was lucky to be out of reach up the tree. The chap, who was the owner's father-in-law, nearly had apoplexy and took a lot of (remote) calming down before I felt safe enough to descend to the ground.

true it's not the straightest of routes but with the a518 closed between hydrant way and black heath ln it becomes a viable option

Hydrant Way:
have been informed that the Traffic Lights have been switched on but the Road won't open until mid November when the developers have finished surfacing the road.

The tarmac is down, but they've been storing materials on there and I can only assume the tarmac was temporary or they've ruined it.

Hopefully it will be opened mid Nov, street lights are on, looks good from the Tixall Rd, only taken some 5 years lol. however I've noticed the fence has been put back up by the fire station end.

We might get the 2nd phase opened by 2022?
