The landlady was pregnant and not seen her for a few weeks, maybe they decided that they didn't want a newborn and a pub they had to run all hours?

I haven't been in the Shrewsbury Arms since the Bird in Hand opened.

I like the pub, however I wasn't very impressed with the service and it lacked atmosphere.

What if....

What if you bought a pub for a knock down price but you really wanted one closer to centre of things in terms of passing trade

What if you then managed to buy that pub at a later date

You have a spare pub

Business is business

But the town centre is just across the road at Riverside side now don't you know?

It is

But that corner to the Shrew isn't turned - it's not en route to the promised land

Whereas the Bird is on the route to and from the station, is the closest bar to the station (ish) is near to the courts and college and car parks

Totally agree and that's a problem for me because it's too easy to stop off at the Bird en route between the station and my bus stop. My transport costs have increased considerably since the Bird became a proper pub again and I'm down to doing 4 pints per mile now :)

What if you owned two pubs and realised customers come back if you show them some attention and interest?

There is a marked difference between the customer service you get in the Bird compared with the Shrew. Whilst I don't want to see Paula and Rob fail I feel the staff in the Shrew could have done more to retain customers.

Was in last night, felt very different. No music (apparently rob deleted it), very few customers, it's currently got a relief manager in but she says she's only there temporarily. Not really sure what has gone on.

I couldn't comment on individuals as I don't know them or that pub .But it is a lot of pub to fill if you don't offer a good range of food

Almost dead on a year since opening, dunno if it's relevant but could be 1 year since signing the tenancy?

It's official

My bootlace and Google maps say the Bird is nearest bar to station

Both spot-on.

I attended the Shrew tonight, for the first time since about 1990.

It seemed generally OK - though, I would not recommend the Guinness.

It seemed a lot bigger than I remember.
