wanna see my snake?
As some of you are no doubt aware my OH is moving shop premises, unfortunately the place she is currently in just doesn’t have enough visibility for the type of product she will now be selling (prom/evening/occasionwear – she will no longer be selling traditional bridal wear). Therefore she is moving to what was the IGS premises which has high visibility and large windows. What started out as a fairly simple looking task has become a much larger beast than anticipated, so I thought I’d document what I was up to somewhere. If nothing else it could help answer a few questions if anyone else is in a similar situation, or merely serve as a reminder of how to avoid being electrocuted.

I didn’t get enough photos of the bits I really should have unfortunately, we just got stuck in ripping things apart, but I’ll see if I can pick out a few that show the changes best.

Its weird, you think you got a pic of everything but then find gaping holes (and not just in the plaster).

On the left of this pic is the only shot I have of the bath display unit, with a radiator between the 2:

As we need wall space rather than vertical baths that had to go, and the radiator with it. Underneath is a small fan heater that runs off the central heating which is now the only heating on the left hand side of the building, and also had the only wall mounted plug socket, therefore the bottom had to stay. It ended up looking like this, we'll put rails above it:
XK06A2qEOdQ0REaYCJQFvF70fWVJGKtSMc2SzicyosXa8xngwy08zqmfKm4Jsf11WXZ3l4t7GOC1RobywEjH9B2IUbwIHGvX3HHLq0gQKss60zqwtZcoLtygqnUfOkeV5VIJ2fXsS_4Rzc_GZsfZOduoRv6_lqjGQikRuPF2JLGyRod-mU9rqxSUIbn_RKDzjNabLEzkgdEw1z0MWAEREDwEtxMHBh5Nqh4Te4xCJzfCFi-eeqJvVJnHP6TGpC2K-OlSMHQNzCjpi-G4fN-oKn_dwPgF6Jv_NxkpxqYa4LtHHTeHTzigYdrwQdF3loD73xiTli9a7zc9ms1QScrppSTpyYcvPAWNSyE8OZQPoG-Y7QY99vCGqVPHsXAbBS-z_2jgaoBtvSE1LB9Ut5kO0bJswIIaQHPemM-XWJsyfksRJvqFDRtxJE7kHsCOSBgt9oNHU_forH5A6n6Y-uIbLhb78j0ZS_AUIwGShuztFA6fjSP4bc2MkvW6QxbkzE5w2XRkbaqDArLLdx3DmKkq0Y0DLEMlofkf4ZrLo5kfTgPB76BuisWnH8CHrNVSfz10d0FaGA_A_nOaYF0EthAch8gUZJVtP8CJ6XD90PSHZ7QB-wKLDHYiBxio8WulD3qktyiaeupiF_hYWU9TdtJRurL4tpSgp5ZTdg=w1211-h682-no

EDIT: Also in the front of the shop in the first pic was a multi level platform that was wired into the wall with some lights and sockets, I stripped out what I didn't need to leave this bit:

Or this spare live wire running off a 30a fuse in a different consumer unit to the rest of the shop?

This has all been signed off by an electrician, so maybe I'm just being picky? They specifically said the first pic is fine, mind you they also told me the wrong fuse box to isolate the junction box in the second image. I hadn't discovered the extra live wire at this point.

As you can see from this pic there were mantlepiece height false walls everywhere to show off the fireplaces:

A boiler that you put in about 18 months ago is due to come out shortly, along with the new hot tank that you put in a year or two earlier, as the new owner wants to go 'combi' and put a shower in that corner - I have made him aware of your existence...

I walked past on Saturday, it is shaping up but a hard task ahead of you.
Yup! Started painting on Sunday, 25l later and it's nowhere near finished. The walls just suck the paint into them! Well, they did, the boiler is broken so it's not drying very quickly now :(

I've changed the top pic in post 5, can anyone see it now?

Anything of value has gone, although they've not finished moving out yet!

EDIT: Links added to post 5, still unsure whats happening as I posted them in exactly the same way as all the others.

The plaster and wiring job is nasty but only the third one looks like it's of any danger - and only if the taped up wire is the live bit and not the inside of the junction box

I would certainly get a sparky to redo all the plugs and change out the fuse box for a CU just to be on the safe side though. You can never be too careful.
