Genealogy -- calling all Timmins! -- (Wrights, Joneses too)

Hello,

I (Zak) don't live in Stafford or the UK for that matter. Not yet anyway! My wife and I may be moving to London shortly as it concerns something with my wife's business. Tony, my genealogy collaborator, lives in Chester.

The primary reason I'm writing here ... I'm a FamilytreeDNA surname administrator for the TIMMONS project.

https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/timmons/about

Tony, my collaborator, is an admin of another FTDNA surname project, TIMMINS.

https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/timmins/about

The reason Tony and I are collaborating -- we're seeing a strong overlap (Y-DNA matching) between these two groups as it concerns these surnames. The Timmons -- it appears -- being cousins now in America. (many of whom came over in the 1600's/1700's)

As it concerns the earliest history, we've been some cases where the surname, Timmins, goes back to the 1500's in ***Staffordshire***!!!

If you've done any DNA testing (or would consider it) ... or at the very least, you have a long pedigree you could share with us, we'd really very much like to hear from you!

Zak Jones - FTDNA Timmons volunteer admin (ftdna.timmons@gmail.com)
Tony Timmins - FTDNA Timmins volunteer admin (timmins@one-name.org)

...

Also: I'd like to also mention that I volunteer admin for two other surname projects: Wright and Jones. So, I'd be similarly interested in hearing from you for those surnames too! Again, if you have any lineage history (or interest) -- please get in touch with me!

My Nan (my mum's mum) was a Timmins. They came from Hednesford / Cannock way, which is Staffordshire.

Staffordshire in the 1500's ?

This would likely include the city of Wolverhampton and the towns of Walsall and West Bromwich . They left Staffordshire in 1974 after a falling out over dominoes match betting scandal

It could also mean you are related to an Irish monk from Lindisfarne . Or just a peasant

Timmins exist in numbers in Wednesbury . Some are rather attractive I believe

Jones would be the second most common surname in England and Wales, you won't run out of examples for a long time - Wright is not exactly an uncommon name either.

And given that 'wright' is an occupational determinant, one would expect genealogical factors to be less influential in it being so widespread.

Wheelwrights, Wainwrights, makers of things and the progeny thereof.
