These are great! Thank you everyone :) Where did you find these @industryarch ?

Turns out the original owner was an electrician....could do with one for the place now though, :D

I did look through FmP but the number of the house I am looking at isn't listed, which is odd?

I notice a house down my road now has a little poppy shape plaque on it, something about a soldier who died in the war having lived there. Memory not great so not sure which war but I love the idea of this. Anyone know how getting these plaques comes about? Owner instigated or some other organisation?

Is it like this? If so it's set up by a military historian to remember those who died in WW1 on the 100th anniversary year.

There are more details in an article in the Sentinel if you Google red memorial plaques in Stafford.

it's number 18 that up for sale, so these reports would be my neightbour. What a brilliant piece of history though, being a scaly brat myself, I am curious to learn more about him and what he flew in the Balkan campaign.

YES! It's exactly like that. Thanks. Off to Google!

Found it...This is so cool but I'm disappointed my house never housed a war hero!

1 of those just up the road from me. Youngest spotted it yesterday. Just before the turning to Jerningham St.

I live in that area of Stafford and as already pointed out the estate is referred to as the colony or Siemens colony.

Siemens relocated from woolwhich in the early 1900s and built 88 houses for their workers on Sabine street (my old street), Lawrence street, salt avenue, salt road and Siemens road.
The houses on salt avenue were apparently built for supervisors etc and those on Siemens,Lawrence and Sabine for the married workers with families and the flats on salt road were built for the single men or married men without families.

I researched my property on Sabine street and found that the first occupants were a German family who incidentally left just before 1914.

From what I have been told the 1930s properties on stychfields and salt avenue were built in the previous allotment site. From what I have been told by a knowledgable resident they were not built by the factory but were built for the factory.

Sometime in the 1970s or 80s the houses passed to a new owner. I was told by a elderly resident who lived in one of the 1930s houses that she asked residents if they wished to buy their homes. Apparently she set up a little office on the bottom of salt avenue and people queued to speak to her to buy their homes.

I now live in talbot road. That part of the estate was built by lord Ingestre and the Chetwynd family.
Talbot house on talbot road which is a large imposing house was occupied by the person who collected the rent. My property (no 10) the large White House opposite talbot house is shown on parish maps in 1850. Behind and to the side of my house which is now meyrick road was originally a timber yard and the occupants of my house in 1850 ish were timber merchants.

Through looking on the map of 1850 it only shows about 6 houses on talbot road at that time. Talbot house, laurel house, gurnet house, glendene house my house now called number 10) and s couple of terraced properties.
The majority of terraced homes were built in the early 1900s
