Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Enjoying a drop of red.
You are right the car park flooded regularly with any amount of ample rain. For significant periods of wet weather about 80% of the then council staff car park ( in the week) would be inaccessible, sometimes worse.
It was certainly the case after snow melted which we had plenty of last winter ( which flooded part of Victoria park last). Proof is in the result, cannot remember a year the car park did not flood, bar the last year.

That said all they had to do was level it out, the previous car park was on such a slope the water had nowhere to go except downhill where it met the marsh and would pool, such was the poor design exasperated by equally shoddy maintenance.

That won't happen now especially as there is proper drainage and an overflow system which pushes high water table from the marsh underneath the car park via drainage outflow
The flood water has to go somewhere though.

Time will tell where that is now.

Some sort of work going on in the abandoned Library - looked to be mostly the removal of miscellaneous debris, but I couldn't see in very well.

Ex-RBS seems to be being gutted.

Both positive news. Hopefully, something positive will be done with both buildings.

It won't really go anywhere to effect the car park. As I said, the previous design of the car park and its slope exasperated the flooding of the car park, the only run off was meeting a high water table of the marsh. The flooding was made worse by this and had no where else to go except back up the car park as the water rose.

That element has been resolved, the car park is 3 foot higher at the bottom than it was, with grated outlets through out managing an even spread and outflow of surface water. The back up is any high water table from the marsh would now go underneath the car park rather than up it, assisted by 2 newly created water channels. None of the above was part of the prior version of the car park.

The issues seen with alarming regularity over the years will be gone (famous last words lol)

Works towards the new Stafford western access route have commenced.

The works to greyfriars were part of the enabling works and there has been large scale monitoring of properties in castle town to ensure that the new road will not cause any damage to homes.

I have been informed that the council have funding for the first two phases but not the third. However that funding will be provided by new houses that will be adjacent to the route.

The main stumbling block that I can envisage is the mega bowl building. The building is very close to the new road and ideally needs relocating.

These are the people who initially underestimated the depth of foundations needed by 50%. How could the work not cause damage?

We've got a massive shiny new pylon out of it though, and getting companies to build new houses on a floaty bog should be simples
