What are we watching on TV?

At first I thought it was like a cross between The Avengers and John Le Carré, but it's really got quite dark. Incredible performances by Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh. The rest of the cast are perfectly positioned (Kim Bodnia who played Martin in the early series of The Bridge) and Fiona Shaw, exactly what the head of MI6 should be like.

Jodie Comer is drop dead gorgeous, but I don't think I'd want to meet her on a dark night …. :lorks:

The head of Mi6 is an economist with a liking for waltzes

Well they tend to be bean counters these days in most security services, but there was a time …….

Watching an episode of Peep Show every few days, having picked up the first seven series in the Save the Children shop.

I only saw the odd one at the time, but it seems to be as good as I remembered.

A mix of Men Behaving Badly and The Inbetweeners...
First series completed - remarkably good.

On the TV earlier they were showing an old British war film made over 60 years ago. It was called 'Ice Cold in Alex' which referred to the ice cold beer John Mills promised to buy his companions, Anthony Quayle, Harry Andrews and Sylvia Syms as they went through trials and tribulations crossing the Sahara in a clapped out Austin ambulance trying to avoid Rommel's advancing army.

It wasn't quite as 'stiff upper lip' as many of the films made in those days, and the final scene is a classic. The four of them are in a bar in Alexandria and John Mills is buying them their ice cold glasses of lager. The scene called for John Mills to drink the glass down in one gulp, then say one line: "Worth waiting for." They had to use real lager because none of the substitutes looked real enough. It took 14 takes because he would gulp down the glass and then keep fluffing his line !!! - by which time he was three sheets to the wind !! Given Mr Mills was a true class act, you can't help but think he knew what he was doing.

It was released as a 'B' picture in the US, and the title was changed to 'Desert Attack.' :urgh: (Of all people the Americans should have appreciated an ice cold beer in a hot country.)

The scene was later used by Carlsberg as a TV advert, and interestingly, the actors got a larger payment for the ad than they did for the film. :hmm:

Impossible to use a starting handle without thinking of that film...

Well I’m watching “I’m a Celebrity.”

I know, I know, .... but before all you intellectuals start lecturing, all I can say is this...don’t knock it if you haven’t watched it.

It’s lighthearted, it’s fun, it entertains me.

Ok, so I don’t like watching the eating trials, but what I really enjoy is watching people taken out of their comfort zone, stripped of their luxuries, thrown together with other people who they probably usually wouldn’t mix with , and then watching them get on with it (or not, as is often the case).

I like the surprise element of those who you think might be a strong personality actually struggle and those perceived as weak defy expectations.

I take my hat off to those last night trying to get those flags perched on the edge of a cliff.
Not sure that I could have done it.

I love it.

Just finished watching season 3 of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Absolutely loved it!
Now I need something else to watch if anyone can offer any suggestions?
