Christmas 2018

I feel like I’ve been awake for days despite 4 giant cups of super strength coffee, the presents have been made short work of, there are three huge bin bags full of wrapping paper and boxes in the garage. Pancakes and Buck’s Fizz demolished for breakfast!

The bird and the beef are in the oven, turkey is enormous with a 4 hour 40 mins cook time to come out at 12.30 and free up space for everything else. Possibly going to struggle this year with getting everything to the table hot despite having a double oven, though piping hot gravy hides a multitude of Luke warm sins!

Clean up of wave 1 is complete! It’s worked out really well, got a couple of hours to chill before people start to arrive. Which is a first to be honest as it’s usualy no stop all day.

Are all you lovely lot getting dressed up? It’s leggings, a Christmas jumper and slippers all day for me.

I'm currently wearing one of my Christmas presents (along with clothes) it's called Hatalunya

Cat woke us up numerous times in the night, evidently excited for Christmas

Presents opened, most of dinner was prepared yesterday so just have to cook the duck today.

My mum says the turkey is cooked, everyone else thinks it needs another 20 minutes, we’ve pulled the legs off and shoved it back in, yorkies. Pigs in blankets and parsnips are still on the counter top waiting for oven space, my timing is completely off now though I said aiming for 2 pm, it’ll probably be nearer to 3.

Not too much of a problem still waiting on 5 guests.

I think Boxing Day is my favourite day.

Had a few mad hours on the last of the clean up, decorations and 3 trees are back in the loft with the exception of the dining room which we’ll leave till New Year’s Day, it’s always a relief to get the living room clear and the real tree in the hall was a serious fire hazard waiting to happen!

House is now spotless and we’ve just finished Christmas dinner number two, still had loads of turkey and beef left and made a fab bubble and squeak with the veg and potatoes!

I love the days where you have a lovely hot bubble bath then put a fresh set of pjs straight back on again.

Time for some crap tv and a bottle of bubbly while the kids play with their new toys.

Merry Boxing Day folks!!!

Everything was extremely organised this year.
Present list written in October.
Cards and wrapping paper bought in Oct. Stocking fillers and small gifts bought throughout the year.

All booze bought when Sainsbury’s had 25% off, put away and saved including a few bottles of Bollinger and some gorgeous Chablis and Sancerre.

Main presents all bought on Black Friday. Everything wrapped a week before Christmas.
Did lots of baking and cooking in the days leading up to Christmas.

Turkey ordered from Hindles butchers and was perfect as always.
No stress about cooking thanks to my amazing hostess trolley which keeps everything at optimum temperature ready to be served.

Totally exhausted and in bed very early Christmas night.

Today was demolishing the turkey. All bones and carcass, left over veg currently on the stove making turkey and vegetable soup which will be frozen.
I’ve also made a potato and leek soup.

Tomorrow I’ll be making carrot soup and turkey and mushroom pies for freezing.

Not one bit of food gets wasted.

Hope that you all had a lovely Christmas.

Happy New Year everyone.

Oven stopped working this evening, think an element has gone :(

Starting to realise why B&Q have a sale on kitchen stuff in January - everyone has run their kitchen through the ringer, and found a lot of annoyances. Either appliances have broken or the kitchen configuration just doesn't work any more.

However, an element is an easy fix fortunately! Unless you were looking for an excuse... (don't go to B&Q)
