The term 'bobble hat' has always amused me - since I once heard Derbyshire Police describe a suspect as -
"wearing a bobble hat without a bobble'.

I have got the works out for a bit of a clean and oil - despite being a few decades old, it seems to have hardly been run - there is (was) dust on top of the spring barrels, but not on the bottom.I accidentally bought a spare clock today - rather like this, a bit of case variation, but the same "works".
It's running now - and is so quiet that I initially thought that it wasn't working...
The cuckoo clock, not mine, is still proving problematical, it runs OK now, though you would soon get fed up of the daily wind, but the chimes still fail (ir)regularly.
