Completely unrelated, but why do vegans have to say they’re ‘going for a vegan sausage roll’? What relevance or implication, does the fact that the sausage roll was vegan, have in any way?

Ah the old damned if you do damned if you don't,

Call it a sausage roll?
"It's not meat! It's not a sausage! Call it something different!"

Call it a vegan sausage roll to accommodate
"Oh so you feel the need to call it Vegan eh!"

Perhaps you need to stop been such a sensitive soul about someone calling a vegan sausage roll a vegan sausage roll.
It's what you ask for at the counter. It is literally what it is labelled as.

(and the actual relevance is - no real vegan options at the venue, so I had to go elsewhere for a nibble for the mrs)

I wouldn’t say that I went to the bar last night for a Double Dry Hopped New England Pale Ale, or even a DDH NEIPA. I would simply state, and so would most individuals with no agenda, ‘I went for a beer.’

To say you go for a vegan sausage roll is to state a lifestyle choice re veganism. It is to draw a line in some way as to seek acknowledgment as to a certain ethical dietary lifestyle choice, which is veganism. Otherwise the use of specific definition is vacant of context.

It is what could be defined as A Loaded Statement.

I’m not sensitive re Vegans. But I get tired of their loaded rhetoric.

I do generally refer to things in the specific.

I rarely say 'I went for a beer', I'd commonly (though I rarely drink nowadays) say 'popped into (the pub)) for a couple of Hobgoblins/Smiths/Guiness.

I rarely say 'We went for burgers', I'll often say 'I had the pulled Jackfruit burger, and G had the Pastrami sandwich'

Some of us love to write. Some of us blog.

The only rhetoric in my post is that which you are choosing yourself (from the inclusion of the name of a food item), so quit it with the attempt to police peoples language.

Not sensitive Re: Vegans but throws toys out the pram when someone mentions in passing getting a sausage roll :welldone:

Imagine living in a world where everyone describes every instance in the acutely particular rather than the general?

Probably the times you pass. I'm only in town on Saturdays usually, we tried last Saturday at about 3pm & the place was full, no empty tables & most were fully occupied. The previous week was the first time in ages that we'd been in & it was pretty full all the time we were there, we got the only empty table when we went in. It's a shame though that he's closed the room on the right, I'm sure there'd be demand for it at busy times.
I was a bit surprised to see they close at 4pm & reopen a 5-30 on Saturday. I'd be interested to see how busy it is when I reopens.

Yep, we left on Saturday as there was a queue so felt bad for keeping a table as we were just chatting. I'm surprised the room on the right would be well used on a Saturday.
