Staffordshire Villages

Hi! All. A bit vague I'm afraid but my Wife and I are looking to move to the Stafford area to be near family. We don't want to live in the Town and are hoping that someone can recommend some surrounding Villages that have a few Pubs and shops. We don't know the area at all, so any information would be helpful.

We do have correspondents out there in Yokelsville - and some of them will, no doubt, be along shortly, possibly trying to recruit you for their rather suspect "traditions".

There is an underground publication, called Village Voice, which may be available to potential residents of good character.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Great Haywood/Little Haywood, Weston, Brocton, Haughton, Acton Trussel and Hixon all fit the bill.

Avoid Bednall at all costs as they sacrifice incomers round there ;)

Hello, I’m here!

I live in a tiny village (Bednall) but we don’t have pubs or shops so we’re too small for you.

How far out of Stafford do you mind being?

Haughton and Gnosall and Eccleshall are pleasant with plenty of shops and pubs, schools, doctors etc.

Smaller villages are Church Eaton and Acton Trussell. In the other direction Brewood is lovely too.

A few posts under my belt
Hi Penkridge is great, a wonderful selection of pubs, small shops, a lovely community village, a market twice a week, great transport links with a train station, good bus service to the main towns, doctors, dentists, everything you would need.

Eccleshall would probs fit the bill and with the recent developments previously inflated house přices are falling.

No initiation ceremony here in Church Eaton. There are no shops but there is a pub, where I am currently.

Penkridge is ok but you do have a mixture of commuters and cliquey older residents.

Probably about a 10 mile radius from Stafford Town

Thanks to everyone. Most informative.
So we're now looking for a private rented accommodation in Burston!

I haven’t been to Burston for about 20 years but the last time I looked it only had one pub and no shops at all so I’m not sure that it will be big enough for you (your first post said pubs and shops).

However @Gramaisc goes weekly so I’m sure he’ll clarify when he comes along.
