Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

For some very strange reason the group I was out with on Friday night decided to go to butlers bell after visiting slaters. You could count the number of customers in the pub on 1 hand.

Slaters was busy.

Seriously 5 or less in spoons, for all of its faults I have never seen it that quiet.

Seriously. I counted them because I couldn't believe it. My group of 4 almost doubled the attendance.

I've been to Butlers Bell during the day and its usually busy but maybe not in the evening if Friday is typical.

I tend not to go to butlers bell or picture house on an evening because I stick to the best pubs in Stafford. On a night out I want quality beer so my pub crawl usually consists of the following floodgate, sun, no.7, bird, rose and crown and slaters. On occasions I will go to market vaults or the sun as well.

Peacocks have updated their store window display to say it closes in like 3 weeks time, so looks like the landlord told them he'd rather have the place empty than accept a reduction in rent, not sure if the Edinburgh Wool Mill will follow suit as they were following a similar strategy.

As such , the peacocks closing down sale has started with 50% off whatever is left inside.

Ahh right, I saw it last August as I was sitting outside The Butler's Bell (which I'm still calling "Yate's Wine Lodge" as I believe that's how it started. Not that it had in anyway a similarity to the Yate's Wine Lodges I visited in Liverpool many Moons ago.)
I had a look on Google Earth street view which is dated July 2017 and wow, doesn't that end of the town look sad, or at least, did then. When I was there last August it was early on a warm summer evening and it appeared very pleasant.

moving to join aldi and b&m on kingsmead ?
Possibly. I have only heard the first bit.

The rumours would suggest jobs are going, which might not be the case in a local move.

Who knows - all may become fairly clear shortly - if any of it is actually true...
