What are we watching on TV?

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I have watched Season One and five episodes of Season Two. It was good, not great but it is supposed to get even better in later seasons.

I watched 'Solo - A Star Wars Story' yesterday. I'm not really a Star Wars fan, it's upgraded Flash Gordon and not hard SciFi from my point of view, (although I did think Rogue One was good.)

But I watched this one about a young Han Solo because I noticed Pheobe Waller-Bridge had a major part in it. She plays an off the wall, semi-feminist, robotics rights total nutjob of a droid. :heyhey:

Difficult to imagine anyone better to play a part like that.

I enjoyed 'Solo - A Star Wars Story' when I watched it but I think Rogue One is the best Star Wars film of them all. Even better than the original trilogy. It gets better every time I watch it.

I've never seen any of the Star Wars films either or any episode of Star Trek.
Nothing wrong with that. If they aren't your 'thing' then you don't have to watch them.

I have never watched Fight Club. Why? Because I can't be bothered. Anyway, I don't know what it's about because no one talks about it...

I've only ever watched it when visiting family, who are fans. I sit there grinding my teeth and trying not to turn into Tyrannosaurus Rex Mode.

It's the only time when I've sat there wishing the Sun would go supernova so that I wouldn't have to suffer anymore.

"Don't forget the Driver." I'd sort of expected this to be a comedy .. perhaps along the lines of 'The Detectorists.' Possibly since the central character is played by Toby Jones … a powerhouse actor with a phenomenal output of parts right across the range over decades now. Comedy is just one of his abilities.

There are a few laughs, albeit infantry humour, but it really is quite a dark drama … often very bitter. None of the characters in it are particularly likeable, but it is sort of compulsive viewing. Of course Toby Jones steps up to the plate as usual. :hmm:

If you like the dark humor of 'Dont forget the driver', you would probably like 'Afterlife' on Netflix too .

Afterlife is, at least in my opinion, a work of genius, and it has been talked about elsewhere - but one would suggest that 'TV' would rather be defined as that which is generally available, rather than that which is effectively behind a pay wall.

These sorts of distinctions are likely to make absolutely no sense whatsoever to anyone flicking back through the pages in 2025.

But...

Haven't got Netflix, used to have it a few years ago. Signed up just so I could watch the American series 'Breaking Bad' which was another dark but very entertaining series. Then I let it go. Have Amazon Prime and have watched and enjoyed 'The Expanse' and the 'Outlander' series (I'm a sucker for time travel stories and 'Outlander' takes a non-scifi view of it.) But the TV side of Prime was not why I joined it in the first place. Didn't even know it covered TV at the time, but you do have to buy the Firestick and your TV must have a USB slot (they all do these days.)
Problem is that as everybody jumps on the 'pay for view' bandwagon it all starts to become stupidly expensive.

Back to Life

Geraldine James - hot damn it is very lovely to see her again in anything.

Well written, touching if a bit obvious, subtle in a good way, believable and honest.

Funny.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh !!!...……………..AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh !!!

(Think screams in the night, loud wails and much gnashing of the teeth …………….)

(Don't mind me. I always get like this when the Eurovision Song Contest comes around. It's a curse sent down from above to punish Europe for its sins.)

:heyhey::eek::teef:

There She Goes

Without the BAFTAS this would have passed me by.

This is not an easy watch, and for some it will hit hard like it's not even entertainment at all.

Welcome to our world.
