Apple will hold a special event next Tuesday to introduce new Mac notebooks at its Cupertino-based campus after all.

Invites sent to members of the media Thursday included an image of an aluminum Mac notebook with the tagline: "The spotlight turns to notebooks."

The event is set to take place at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, October 14th at the Apple Town Hall on the company's Cupertino, Calif.-based campus.
hopefully a revamped imac will follow not long after, cos my mac fund is slowly reaching the point where i can consider a purchase!

I'm considering an iMac for all my photography work, can't really see the need for a mabook although I would really like one, I would prefer to get a desktop with the extra power.

They are really cheap now though, I remember when Apples used to cost an arm and a leg!

damn fanboys ;)
the problem is, they are such sexy pieces of kit that, once you start to fancy one, it's hard not to become a fanboy!

i've been a PC user for 15 years, and i am still of the opinion that they are the sensible choice for everyday workhorse/office tasks.. but since i came up with the idea of getting myself a "basic" mac, just to teach myself os x, it's snowballed out of control! i find myself fetishising them more and more each day lol..

damn you, jobs, and your relentless marketing department :grr:

Haha yeah I know what you mean. I initally looked at the Apple website thinkin I'll get a mini mac to help with the photoshoppng thing, but then thought but well for another 300 I could have a macbook. Ah but then for another 100 I could have an iMac.. and so on until despite the fact I had no need to ultraportability I was hankering after a macbook air.

Personally I think that a high end Mac Mini would suffice for photoshopping. What do the mac users think?

i wouldn't go near the air, personally.. it doesn't have an ethernet port for starters, and wifi is just too shaky to rely on 100% imo.. plus there's no optical drive..

the imacs are great value for money, imo.. the 24" ones are absolutely enormous! if you can't make it to an apple store, pc world in stafford have a couple on display (although no-one in their right mind would actually buy from them, natch)..

i get some pretty tidy discounts from apple due to working at an educational establishment, so if anyone is looking to buy let me know :)

Thats a fair point, it is a little impractical. Still, as Tek posted it would make me feel really special!

If I get the chance to try photoshop or Aperture out on the mac mini I will be able to see whether its worth it. In my experience PS uses RAM like its going out of fashion, so I may be better off with a PC and spending the difference on lots some high quality RAM.

any time any new piece of kit is released, there is always a race to see who can dissect it the quickest lol.. don't get it, myself..

it's amazing how small the actual logic board is on these things, though.. the GPU is bigger than the CPU!

Quite funny, I was watching cnet.co.uk do a comparison between the Mac Book Air and the MSI Wind the other day.... very random.

Just bagged myself a Advent 4211 (rebadged MSI Wind) yesterday for £230... bargainarama!!!!

Can't wait to get it. Anyone else got a netbook and loving it?
