First attempt at bread was rather successful!

Still haven’t made the coffe and walnut cake, today may be the day.

Thinking next new recipe might be ravioli, looking at pasta machines now, does that pasta count as baking?

I want to make homemade pasta too! never tried it, although I do cook pasta three or four times a week due to having an Italian boyfriend. He says my Italian cooking is as good as Mama used to make, I'm going to have a go at gnocchi too

Perhaps look at multipurpose machines? Not saying shell out on a KitchenAid (however they are damn good) but some stand mixers can take attachments for all sorts - including pasta making.

The pasta was good!

Working it was awkward and fruitless for a long time then suddenly it was ok, I did a tagliatelle carbonara and the faff of the pasta definitely paid off.

I borrowed the pasta machine from my mother, I figured I'd better at least have a go before I shelled out on more kitchen stuff.

I bought a food processor but not used it yet, it does loads including kneading the bread apparently but it doesn't do pasta as far as I know.

I made the coffee and walnut cake @Glam cake was fab but icing was a disaster of epic proportions. Rookie mistake, I turned the scales on with the sieve in the bowl so ended up measuring out more than double the icing sugar, then it went and separated on me. I've just scraped it off the cake which now tastes fab!

I've done white bread (Allinsons bread flour width the recipe on the back) twice over the past couple of days and they turned out pretty good. Today is wholemeal, completely different recipe - a Delia and only one prove. which is currently underway.

And I have used the food processor!

Over ordered on the salad stuff before the snow hit and have wanted more substantial meals so whipped up a soup that is a concoction of almost everything in the salad drawer cooked up for an hour then chucked in the smoothie jug attachment. Tastes damm good, especially considering I'm out of garlic which is a first for my kitchen.

Next job prep the roast!

A year on and I’m still a baking novice, it comes in fits and starts and I still haven’t managed an edible whole meal bread.

I was treated to a kitchen aid type mixer recently and I’ve been doing a bit more, it just makes it all so easy.

I’ve gone a bit OTT today with a trifle, coffee cake and a lemon drizzle cake but the kids have had fun if nothing else!

First attempt and a ciabatta loaf is proving now, fingers crossed it turns out ok.

Anyone got some good recipies I can try for next time?

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers are wonderous machines. I got the wife a nice Cast Iron one a few years back and it’s her pride and joy - so much cake and homemade bread...

We have one of their magnetic drive blenders now too, it’s a noisy bastard but shows no mercy

I have a few of the old 700 series Kenwood Chefs - a man's mixer.

They used to go round the WI meetings demonstrating them in the '60s and one of the party tricks was to make Kenwood Lemonade - two whole lemons, two whole eggs, a handful of ice cubes and a spoon of sugar - into the liquidiser and topped up with water - a quick whizz round and beautiful lemonade emerged, no hint of the lemon pips, skin or eggshells was noticeable.
