Forgot to say that on Sunday we were going to Chatsworth for the Flower Show.
Our plan was to leave at 8.00am to be there for when it opened, but with one thing and another we didn't leave until 8.30am.

Totally forgot about Iron Man and that half the roads were closed from 8.30am (even though I'd had loads of advance warnings).

We couldn't get out of Stafford! Tried every which way but all roads that we tried were blocked. Ended up going back towards home and going up the motorway from J13.

Anyway, we got there at about 11.00am, an hour later than planned. Got talking to a guy from Stone on the Wedgwood Tea display, he said "how on earth did you escape from Stafford" :|

I think it was a really positive thing to have in the town. Yes I had to stay in on Sunday but I had plenty of notice.

I get that @Lucy and I am lucky but think of all the people that work in town and have to make massive detours just to get to work.
My hope is that the town centre traders saw a significant increase in takings.
My view might be muddied a little due to my irrational hatred of cyclists.

The organisers and council really do not give 2 figs about the residents.
Very true. I live about 5miles from the town centre with no public transport on Sundays. I don't know how the organisers or council expect local residents to get into town to watch the event.

There was plenty of notice though so hopefully they'd remembered and arranged alternatives.

Many people complain about the town centre dying, but lots of the same people also complained about an almost international event being hosted.

I escaped to Somerset on Friday. The organisers and council really do not give 2 figs about the residents.

Totally agree. The only good thing about the parking restrictions was that a car that had been "abandoned" taking up two places in my usual parking location but was still taxed and mot'ed was not there on the Saturday evening of the ironman weekend.

Haven't checked if it has returned yet but hopefully if it has it will be parked in a position where another car can get in next to it.

I really dont see what the problem was ~ on Iron Man Sunday (my only day off work that week) I drove to town From N'orth End, went Swimming at Riverway (not the new Sandon Rd pool) then did a shop in the supermarket. No problems getting in or out of town at all & we had plenty of notice so could arrange a route accordingly...,

I had to stop shouting the c word every time I passed one in the car as I my grandson is in the car with me half the time. The sentiment still stands.

I thought there were park and ride shuttle buses from the Showground to the town on the day.

M6 CLOSED

Due to a serious collision, in which a lorry has left the carriageway, the M6 northbound from J13 to J14 is currently closed.

The Motorway is likely to remain blocked for some time.

All traffic is being taken off at J13/Stafford south and diverted via local routes via #Stafford.

More than one incident, it seems. Any chance of finishing the WAR this morning, to give a different view of the gridlock?

Just took hubby half an hour longer to get to work from Wildwood to Astonfields. Said big queues on Lichfield and Cannock roads (usually no queues when he goes earlier )

M6 closed and parts of the chase flooded has meant all roads into Stafford bar Newport Road have been a little busy to say the least.
