Social Club

Hi! All. My Wife and I have recently retired and moved to Baswich. We are looking for a Social Club to join, but can't seem to find any. Could anyone suggest some please?

What do you mean by Social Club - a building like a Working Men's Club which has a bar and may organise functions, or a social grouping, which may meet for activities in various halls and meeting rooms?

If the first, Stafford has managed to get rid of most of its manufacturing industry and large employers so there are very few WMC-type of clubs left - I can only think of Amasal, but there are others such as the County Staff Club on Eastgate Street, Stafford Rangers Social Club, and the White Eagle Club and the Stafford Hockey and Cricket Club - both on Riverway.

If the second, you have the Stafford Walton Phoenix Club almost on your doorstep http://staffordwaltonphoenix.org.uk/, and Stafford U3A https://staffordu3a.org.uk/index.php , both of which organise a wide range of activities for retired and semi-retired people.

And there was this thread on the forum http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/retired-people-help.13692/

Totally agree with folk who have said about the demise of the 'old' type of social clubs based around a factory/employer, through out the town. I think Perkins still have theirs on the Tixall road, and likewise I think Burton Manor social club still functions. Totally agree with promoting the void that Stafford Rangers Social Club and Stafford Hockey Cricket have done such a good job of filling. If you are not thinking of a sports orientated social club, I would think Perkins and the Polish club are worth looking at. I don't know what function you are hoping such a club would full fill for you? Do you have shared interests? Could you explore them. For example, when my mother and father joined a walking club together. It massively enriched their lives, as a result they explored not only the UK but the globe at a fraction of the normal cost, travelling with like minded people, and made life long friends. This is just an example, it may be that you do have an interest you both share and I would recommend joining a club/group that shares that. I wish you luck.
