Actually, that's really patronising.

It doesn't come up under google searches for Stafford Cinema or Stafford Cinema Times on the first page.
On cinema times websites it is still showing the Curzon and no current films.
Google hasn't got the updated website on its search (I might update it when I finish this post myself - edit, added the website and phone number).

If you look up Stafford cinema Solo it comes up as the sixth hit.

There's an Odeon just round the corner from Birmingham New Street - probably the easiest cinema to get to without a car for major films or the Film theater at Staffs uni in Stoke-on-trent on College Rd for art house stuff. The Lighthouse in Wolverhampton does a good mix of things too and is eady to get to from the train.

If your 101ing it up to Hanley there's a vue cinema in the latest addon to The Potteries shopping center.

Sadly, I hear The Lighthouse is set for closure

Love The Chubb Building and Civic Hall but funds not around anymore

Someone's putting plans together , along with his investors to give this place another stab, and is asking for ideas on what people are after from it.

Seems like the landowner is tempted to bulldoze the plot in the next two years though according to the interested party if this guy doesn't take it on.

Thought such a building would be listed ?

That's a good site !! My Dad used to tell me that the old Labour Club on Eastgate St (before the new one was built on the back, now Kenny's Bar) was listed. This is the first time I've confirmed that. As a kid I'd sit in there with my bottle of Vimto and packet of crisps (with that blue salty one !!) in a room that might have been around when Elizabeth the First was the boss blocker. ;)

How do I edit this?

Would that be what's now the Collonade?

Yes now the Collonade. The club was actually situated in the old building, you go up the Collonade a few yards and there's a door on the right which was the entrance to the orginal club.

Would it survive against Odeon?

Probably not no. It's too damn nice in there and much better quality than anything they'd manage in the ancient place. I've been to the Odeon twice now and don't think I can ever go to a non-Luxe cinema ever again.

I think it depends on what it does and how they approach it - I'd go to the Electric in Brum over any odoan / vue because they bring thematic movie cocktails to your seat during the film.

I vote for bulldoze and rebuild same for the old department store in town. The amount of investment to get these places up to standard will not match the return and so they will just stand empty for decades.

Not a bad idea. Some walkways, a few trees, some benches scattered about. A nice place to sit and watch the world go by, and listen to those distant ghostly voices singing:

We'll come along … on a Saturday morning, greeting everybody with a smile.

:embarrass:

Bulldoze and turf. Greenspaces in the town.

A lovely idea but somewhat fanciful.

Who will pay for this ?

There is the cost of buying the properties and land and demolition.

I couldn't see anyone doing that for no return.

It would only be a hang out for druggies, drunks and homeless so it isn't like anyone could enjoy a green space there.
