i used to work part time while receiving benefits i would turn down temporary jobs because when they were over i would be left with no wage and no benefit and have to reapply with the job center and wait a minimum of 2 MONTHS before i could start receiving benefits again. i am now in full time work and i'm sick of people thinking life on benefits is an easy ride its absolute hell

Parents' horror as 'homeless couple shoot up' in front of children in popular town park
Mums and dads are now worried their children mights find dirty needles

Parents have shared their horror at seeing a homeless couple 'shoot up' in front of children in a popular park.

A woman - who was with a man at the time - was seen injecting herself opposite the swings at Victoria Park in Stafford last Thursday.

She was described as being in her late 20s to early 30s with a slim build and blonde frizzy hair.

Now mums and dads have told how they are too frightened to take youngsters to the park for fear they might find a dirty needle.

Posting anonymously into the Staffordshire Tactical Information Group on Facebook, the mum said: "I wanted to make other parents aware of what I witnessed at Victoria Park today. The incident horrified me this morning.

"I was with my little boy in Victoria Park at around 10am this morning. There were two homeless people that appeared to have set up camp on the river bank path directly opposite the children’s swings.

"To my utter horror the female felt it was appropriate in front of all those vulnerable children having fun in the park to start injecting herself.

"Given that I have seen the same individual appear to be under the influence of drugs on previous sightings I feel this to be unlikely for medicinal purposes.

"I know lots of families use these facilities over the holiday. Unfortunately it made me feel unsafe and I feel that I will not be able to venture to the park again.

"I want to be able to protect my own children and other innocent vulnerable individuals of that horrible sight."

News of what the woman witnessed last Thursday morning (July 25) has left other parents reeling.

And one parent shared how she had seen a woman injecting outside King Edward VI High School, in West Way, Stafford.

She said: "There was a woman with dark hair and a cut on her face maybe 30s or 40s in the alley next to the school injecting heroin which she’d just heated up on the spoon as me and my two-year-old walked past! OUTSIDE A SCHOOL!

"When I walked past the other day there was a needle in the bush."

Another mum said: "This is why I hate using public parks as you never know what's left behind. It's not until your child, or even yourself, stand or sit on it that they are found in some cases.

"It worries me if I'm honest. If you want be like that, fine, but go to places where you're not seen glorifying it like its the normal thing to do."

And a dad added: "It's just wrong, plain and simple - don’t do it in public areas, especially where there are kids."

Staffordshire Police have been made aware of the incident.

A spokesman said: "We received a report of anti-social behaviour concerning a woman seen in Victoria Park, Stafford around 10am on July 25. No further reports were made. If anyone has information they should get in touch."

Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 451 of July 25.

"Homeless " people still have to live their lives and if there is nowhere for then to go and that includes eating drinking, having sex and taking drugs, then they will be forced to do these things in public and resulting in sensationalist headlines in the not so local rag.

"Intentionally homeless" is a pretty broad brush, & could mean you've been sacked from a job that came with accommodation, or you've fallen into rent arrears on a property but left without actually going through the legal eviction process (because, for example, you are aware the arrears are continuing to pile up), or you've left a family home after an argument.

I suspect, with less money available than there used to be, the council will be more likely to decide borderline cases are 'intentionally' rather than 'unintentionally' homeless.
The homelessness reduction act which came in last year actually puts a greater onus on councils to provide support sooner rather than later. There is a prevention duty now rather than just a duty to relieve homelessness when it is imminent/has already happened

Not quite. There was some funding to pay for the introduction of the changes but I’m not sure how long that lasts. Then yep, it’ll need to come out of (non)existing budgets. Some of the pilot authorities saw a positive impact but it’s very early days really.

" The vast majority of news organisations in the western world are left leaning, for small c conservatives its basically a few websites, a copy of the Specatator and the Torygraph. "

You are clearly either badly informed or choose to be ignorant

So because I disagree with you I am either badly informed or ignorant? Maybe I was wrong to suggest that people on here are respectful to others.

The below is my opinion only and you are of course entitled to disagree without me resorting to vague criticism of your knowledge of level of awareness.

Interesting. Most of the people I know think that the country has lurched significantly to the right, led by the majority of the press which is significantly right wing.

Fair enough, most of the people know think it is the other way round, I suppose the view is always going to different for everyone.
