I had cause to go up Newport Road to the Castle car park just now, to do a job for somebody in New Zealand. I note that the section of gravel and gunge out-of-town from the Westway lights is rather 'fatty', as The Boys From The Blackstuff would term it. Whilst being a lot less noisy and dusty, the debris scattered on the footpaths is extremely tacky and seems likely to cause some altercations in the neighbouring premises, if introduced inadvertently to cherished floor coverings...

I turned up Station Road on the way back, but the section around the Top of the World in the distance did look a lot darker than when I traversed the dust storm the other day - maybe it's been tar-sprayed after complaints?

Yes, the roads in the town are 3, 4, or 5 toned in some places. Some areas look like the flat bits are covered and they've left areas where there is obvious pothole treatment needed. Very patchy.

Looks like someone has read our comments on here about the shoddy state of the loose chippings or lack of them on the A34 Stone Road. Most of it has been redone or added to today and a SLOW sign added to the roundabout. Whether this will make a difference or will most of it be gone again by tomorrow morning?

They now need to spray the road with a fine layer of tar like they have done in other parts of Staffordshire - then it won't be a bad job at all.

When Sandon Road was rebuilt, ten years ago now, it was done in a (to me at the time) surprisingly competent manner. The perforated kerbs are fairly obvious as you drive along - less obvious may be the drain holes in the dropped kerbs for the driveway access points - these holes have punched stainless steel sheets in to reduce the amount of debris that might be washed in.

As far as I can see, most, if not all, of these are now completely blocked by the 'resurfacing' material.

It's a great shame, the initial rebuilding was done to a very high standard, with an almost embarrassing level of care about maintaining access and avoiding mess.

On some of the roads it looks as though they left Bus Stop, Slow and some other road markings untreated so they didn't have to repaint them.

That seems to be a fairly standard procedure - the Red Square on the road through Bridgeford has quite a ridge at each side of it.

Isn't it where the antiskid surface has been put down? I understand why they didn't go over that.

Am in Menorca at present, week before we came, work on removing the two Universal Uncorns had started; there were very few cars in car park. A couple mobiles on the concrete beside Doxey Rd. I predict it may look a bit on my return, tomorrow? Universal's work has transferred up to the Junc' 14 industrial park, and despite a minor delay, it should be "all ahead go!'
Completion date sometime next decade! ;)

The Unicorns are gone and the scaffold has been taken back down.

It's gonna be fun when they shut the Doxey Road railway bridge for 4 months. Although that's not scheduled until November 2020, so can probably add a couple of years to that.

Over head signs warning of overnight closures between jc14 and 13 from I think the 28th to Sept the 1st. For us early starters it will make the town that little more congested in the early hours.

There's another closure too, around the 6th I think - will post more when I find the letter...

Thank you. Now added to my calendar. I have routes to avoid the main roads but it's remembering to take them.

Hmm, we need to travel to Penzance overnight on the 30th, I hope there aren't too many road closures further down.

In other news, they seem to have put another layer of tar on both the A518 and A5.
