Something happening at Eccleshall Road cemetery.

There were a number of emergency vehicles at the north end of the cemetery early this morning, a few police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck. They got there around 07:00 and cars were already slowing down to take a look so might cause some issue with traffic heading toward junction 14.

Edit - Title changed from 'eccleshall' to 'Eccleshall Road', to avoid confusion.

No access to the railway lines by the old cemetery, sadly they’ve found a body , that’s what I was told ,there’s a tree down not sure if it’s been cut down but it’s lying across the path also

i usually walk to the old cemetery across onto the newer one and cut through back onto the trail further down . there was a police car blocking that walkthrough. it would appear that the incident is just around the side of the bridge.

Hubbys mate cycles to work down the trail, but police stopped him and told him to find another route this morning while they investigate.

I once found a chap collapsed on the Isabel Trail, just on the cemetery side of the Eccleshall Road bridge. I decided that it was probably a 'substance' issue, but he couldn't be left where he was, so I rang 999 and selected 'ambulance'.

The dispatcher was happy with my assessment and wanted a postcode for my location, which I was unable to give, even if there was one. I carefully described it as being on the disused railway line running under the A5013 in Stafford cemetery. I laboured the point about it being disused, assuming he might be looking at a map to locate the scene. Despite my best efforts to dissuade him, he became convinced that I was on the main line under the bridge in Great Bridgeford and was on the verge of shutting down the rail traffic when I managed to remember the name of Izaak Walton Street as a suggested access route.

Anyway, a chap from a car turned up, via the cemetery, assessed things, agreed that the bloke needed a lift and arranged for that, then left me to 'supervise' the service-user and his bags of kit, as he went off to guide the pair with the full-size vehicle to scene via the alley off Izaak Walton Street..

https://what3words.com/wells.image.spill - would have been handy, but I doubt my Nokia 3510 would be capable...

That also happened to me this morning when I was cycling to work at about 8.20am. The police had taped the path off. You could see the fallen tree further up the path. Looked like a big one. The police were milling about near the entrance to the cemetery. Very sad.

That part of the footpath was still closed this evening as I cycled home from work. Still quite a police presence around that area and walkers/cyclists having to detour through the cemetery.

Having just spoke to an officer whilst walking the dog , she advised me that part of the trail will remain closed for most of today also.

The parkrun on Saturday has been cancelled as it's held on this route. They are obviously being thorough as well as respectful; I haven't heard a name yet, but my thoughts go out to the chap's family and friends.

Tried my usual detour of going through the cemetery on my way home from work tonight and they've now stopped folks using it as a diversion. Gates were closed, fencing has been put up by the fishing pool and there was a group of I presumed to be cemetery personnel preventing anyone from using it as a short cut. No police though.

I would have expected people to have more respect than to keep trying to access the area tbf....

I would imagine it's for safety reasons. I would imagine they would need that area to remove the debris.

.... although theres always some nosey bastards about .
Having said that , not everyone follows this forum or Facebook every 2 seconds so they may be unaware anything had happened.
