Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I wonder if they blocked some roads after the hit and run last year?

I shopped in town for the first time in a couple of months whilst the OH ran. He did it in 41 minutes so I didn't have time to visit too many shops...
I managed to thread through the blockade just before the Iron Curtain came down - there was a very strong Gilets Jaunes presence along the route.

Were you doing a Trolley Dash?

Stafford moaners will he out if force today.

Can the town not just support and celebrate its events like every other area does in the country

I posted on another post asking where the 101 bus would be running due to the road closures so I would tend agree to with @Cue that it could be better planned to minimise the inconvenience and maximise the accessibility to the event.

Even simple things like explaining on the road closure map where the buses will run would help bring people into town. This can't be that hard to plan when you look at the paltry Sunday bus service we have.

I suppose expecting "Stafford" and "Planning" to be in the same sentence is asking an awful lot though, isn't it?

Finally it is good to see some of the participants enjoying the local establishments after the event even though most of them are a bit smelly after their run :)

I know it's a national issue, but we can probably add Thomas Cook to the list now.

I was just thinking that myself. Stopped in to get currency last time I was in town - they had decent rates.

Someone has already updated their online entry to say "Permanently Closed"

Pizza Express is in trouble :( we have so many happy memories of taking our kids there to eat - good food that doesn’t patronise them and brilliant staff. I will be very sad if it goes under.

I would love to meet the idiot that thought it was a good idea to remove all the benches and fountains from the Guidhall Shopping Centre and who decided to remove the escalators to the 1st floor and the only toilets!

Last night my family wanted to shelter from the rain and so ventured into the depressing Guidhall Shopping Centre to find somewhere that we could sit and eat our food. We ended up sitting on the steps by the church outside of the Guidhall!. The incompetent managers at the Guidhall have turned it from a place that people used to enjoy visiting and congregating to somewhere now that you now only walk through if you have too.

Must admit I never understood that. It was is if they were deliberately trying to kill it off.

I believe that part of the reason that they did it was to stop me being stressed over the amount of restraint I had to apply to stop me from adding a few squirts of Fairy Liquid into the fountain...

Seriously, how tempting was that?

Years ago, I saw increasing amounts of foam blowing down the road as I turned off the D-road to go to Newcastle - the source was the fountains there...
