We went to Stafford Aquatics today at the Paul Reynolds Centre (was previously Fishworld).
Really impressed with the 2 chaps running the place, very knowledgeable and friendly.

Is it new management and new name now? I remember the guy there before was looking to sell...

I liked the parrot

I'd turn it back into the Sheridan, and make it an old time theme pub. No meals, just some pork pies (with sell by dates written in roman numerals) and cheese and onion cobs sharing a glass cabinet with some dead flies. You wouldn't be allowed in if you had a tie or a suit on, didn't have a police record or couldn't field strip a 1911A1 .45 calibre Colt pistol blindfold while you had three starving ferrets running around in your trousers.
The beer would be kept in a nuclear hardened cellar (in case there was a spillage) and anybody who asked for a 'martini' or a 'glass of wine' would be instantly dropped into a special room with a sex starved 500lb gorilla that had only been fed LSD for a week. (Which would be displayed above the bar via CCTV, see, I am prepared to allow some modern technology.)
Pen and Wig, Theatre Bar …. ? … is it any wonder we lost the empire ? :bananarock::teef::dance:

I assume that the apartments will be furnished in a manner sympathetic to the building's illustrious history.

Not sure where you can get transparent carpet, though...

Theatre Bar on Eastgate Gate to be converted to apartments

I saw builders in there over the weekend and wondered what was going on.

disappointed to see it going to be apartments although I’m generally in favour of town centre living I still believe that can be very a good pub given the right ownership.

It must be a good ten years, or more, since the Firkin closed, with maybe a year of the Theatre bar about five years ago?

It is just short of twenty one years since I was in the building.

Yet, in the 70s, the Sheridan was one of the places.

Seems to me town's becoming a bit of a free for all regarding planning and repurposing buildings.

Seems to be a lot of private investment going into the town though.

Not a fan of losing a bar for more unsellable apartments... We can't even shift the many that have already been built everywhere.

Bar the ones in Martin St I do not know of any other locations struggling to shift plots.

But having car parking helps and the Theatre Bar has it.

I am all for these conversions as it is a sign of the times and these buildings have regularly been up for rent/ sale as pubs, commercial, retail etc which has ever increasing diminishing returns.

Bringing more folk into towns and put these buildings to good use instead of wreck and ruin
