Aaaaaah! That explains why a stranger with a suitcase was asking us where the taxi ranks were in town, and big queues of train passengers waiting for non existent taxis as they were going on longer journeys. (We nearly caused a riot by going to the front of the queue thinking it was the end, as last time we caught one from there the queue went the other way! They wouldn't believe us that we had made a mistake and weren't deliberately trying to jump the queue  )

I bet you were really, weren't you? :)

Jumped on Cannock bus to find out it only goes as far as Silkmore lane and then turns right and goes around Penkridge....

The strange 75B. The 75 & 75A buses run down the Wolverhampton Road A449 (with a slight detour round Merrivale Road) to Penkridge then cut round to Cannock. The 75B goes Lichfield Road, Silkmore Lane then joins the A449 and on to Penkridge. Some people in Penkridge would find it useful to get to Queens but the 75/75A only morph into the 75B after 7 o'clock in the evening.

In future make sure you get on the 74 which is the direct Stafford-Cannock bus.

After waiting in the non- moving taxi queue, phoning taxis who's ETA was 2hrs+, and racing after the Lichfield bus which wouldn't open its doors , the Cannock bus arriving seemed a miracle ... At least it saved a bit of a walk. Thanks @Noah Will check the 74 times out next night out in town.
(Normally walk from town in the daytime in trainers, but wearing heels at night is harder work)
At least we went part of the way to save too much tottering...
Apparently, reading spotted or STAG, Ricky Gervais was in The Bird in Hand after we had moved on from there, stranded after having to abandon his train journey ,and getting them to order him a taxi from Stoke as none available in Stafford.

At least the moaning
'Casa taxi rank' thread didn't star us

Confused! Can't understand how these flood gates work, as the rising river Severn runs all along the side of the road???? I'd have thought the barriers would have to be all along the side of the river to stop it coming sideways over the road :q:

Hoping son gets back home safe later, he's working right next to the river here until the early hours of the morning , when the rising river levels are due to reach their peak (and highest since 2014 ....we were there at that time as well for his uni interview! ). His car's parked on higher ground away from work to save it sailing off his carpark into the distance, but the water was lapping at the edge of the ringroads as he drove in this afternoon ... Good job he's a strong swimmer ......

Take consolation from another 5 years of the Nasty Party by betting £6,700 on a 96 seat majority for the twats

I suspect the idea is to stop water that may bypass the levee https://riverlevels.uk/flood-warning-river-severn-at-hylton-road-worcester#.XbiS8ej7TmE - from flowing down the road and filling the 'hollow' there.

Got some spam mail today which included a way to build your own fusion reactor !!! All you need is a jam jar and various odd bits of wire and a few other bits and pieces most of which are floating around here somewhere.
BUT !!
….
a jam jar ? WTF am I going to get a jam jar ? … I don't even like jam. :eek::teef:

Any of you ex RAFers know anything about SYS97? It's been buzzing around all night. There was one up last night too so I assume it was the same one.

Can't help but think if it flies over Glam's house while she's trying to get some kip it's going to get a Stinger missile up its arse.
A friend gave me some earplugs, I've been using them since I've been on leave. Last 2 nights I've had 9hrs sleep. God I feel so rough!
