I am glad that you are contributing and I hope that everyone who responds to you does so appropriately. Yes, your views do differ from many on here, but that certainly does not mean that you aren't entitled to hold them.
You will have already got a flavour of the reasons why many individuals objected to the location of the new rugby club; indeed, when an organisation (the RSPB) with over a million members objects, alarm bells should start ringing. It was certainly not a vendetta against the rugby club, merely people trying to protect one of the most important wildlife habitats in the UK, which attract visitors from across the UK and even beyond. And that's without considering the flood implications for the rest of the town (due to water displacement).
I think the answer, to what should the rugby club have done, has been made above, it should have pushed for an alternative location; it would have received a lot of support if it had gone down that route; don't forget moving the club from its old location was an important piece of a massive development jigsaw. A way would have been found to find an alternative location.
However, we are where we are and we all need to try and move forwards. You do come across as someone having an interest in the local wildlife and you do need to take that forward. At the very least I would expect the rugby club to engage with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, to see what can be done to mitigate the impact of the rugby club as much as possible. I would also hope that some sort of partnership arrangement could be developed, to the benefit of all.
In moving to your new location, you don't have to accept that you were wrong. However, you do need to accept that many other people thought you were wrong and look to ways of rebuilding relationships.
Thank you for the constructive feedback. You are right, engaging with the SWT is a very good idea and something that I will start the ball rolling with today. I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Tim
