I got a visit from our labour party candidate last night.
i was busy with 'carer' duties and by the time i answered she had gone but left a leaflet.

i cant say ive ever had a visit from a conservative candidate since ive lived here , maybe its because im on a council estate road and it doesnt fit in their demography ;)
perhaps its good for them that it stays that way

When the council elections were on Lefroy visited us campaigning for the local candidate, but we never had anyone appear for the last GE.

Might have something to do with the bungalows lining the other side of our road. We’re probably profiled under “already voting Tory” (no offence to those that are getting on and don’t hate their grandchildren enough to vote against their interests)

The biggest problem is people think they are there for the average tax paying public , but the truth is theres not many that fit in that 1%.

That’s not strictly true.
The 1% are NOT the average tax paying public.

The top 1% of high earners actually shoulder the burden of paying 27% of the nations tax.

Approximately 43% of people don’t pay tax at all.

So shouldn’t this country be appreciating the higher earners because they contribute the most to the tax bill?

There is something very wrong with a society that doesn’t appreciate hard work and success.
Those that have worked hard to achieve, those that have made sacrifices to better themselves.
These people are paying over 40% tax.

Why are so many people against hard work and success?
Some people are relying on the tax payers to help them and yet belittle them for being “posh”.

The high earners give nearly half of what they earn to the tax bill.

I fail to understand the logic of wanting high earners to pay more tax instead of encouraging a certain group of society to realise the positivity in going out to work.

I saw a graph the other day that showed that our taxing of the mega-rich was roughly in line with other countries. I'm damned if I can find it now, but here's one that shows where we are out of kilter - the taxing of "comfortably off".

IFS @TheIFS

UK taxes are about average by international standards, and lower than in most of Western Europe. If the UK adopted the #tax system of a typical higher-tax country – like France or Germany - average earnings would be taxed more heavily.

Why are so many people against hard work and success?

Do so many people nowadays think it’s “their right” to get benefits, to choose a lifestyle of not working?

Do you seriously think that making their tax bill even higher is fairer than actually encouraging people to realise the positivity in earning their own living and not choosing a benefit lifestyle?

That particularly 1% pay no tax at all, it's offshore

The Conservatives exist for the elite and the deluded

Unless you’re circumstances have changed, do you not now live offshore yourself?
Still owning a property in the UK and renting it out while actually living in France?

I think some people living on the breadline might consider your lifestyle elitist.

I think perhaps you are confused between working and living in the EU, and lower CGT tax rates, carried interest, entrepreneurs relief, layers of shell companies, offshore trusts and diversionary locations for assets and intellectual property, residing on paper and resting in invisible accounts.

Which would exlude you from the elite

Yes, I was being flippant. Of course you are not elite.

However, I think you might be confused between offshore companies and the individuals (top high earners) who pay millions in tax.

Anyway the point that I was making was that @Cue said in one of his posts that the average tax payer represented 1% of the country.
I was merely pointing out that 1% are the top high earners not the average earner.

So if 43% pay no tax at all, then 57% do pay tax. I can’t find the figures which say how many are in each tax bracket.
