Did any members participate in the PKC in 1967 or '68?
It was an initiative from John F Kennedy to try to improve the fitness and health of the world's young people, and part of it required the completion of a sponsored 50 mile walk overnight. There was a big group of us assembled at a school in north Stafford on a Saturday evening in July or August with sandwiches an flasks, and walked via a circuitous route to somewhere else overnight. I have no idea of the destination, but I got as far as Stone, at about 3 in the morning, had a bit of a sleep on a Scout hut floor, threw up my cheese sandwiches, and was driven back to our start-off point on a beautiful Sunday morning! I was wearing plimsolls - not the best footwear to do a long walk in.
We had a little radio in our group and listene to Battle of the Bands between The Beachboys and Manfred Mann.
That's basically all I can remember. Anyone else have memories of that evening, and where we were supposed to be walking to?
