What are we watching on TV?

Never mind demons and hobgoblins and other Halloween horrors. There could be something much more terrifying just around the next future corner.

Fiction ? .. yes. But only just. Isaac Asimov's Laws seem to have slipped through the cracks.

Bought an Amazon Firestick a few months back and have been watching 'The Expanse.' I have to say as TV SciFi series go, this one is really up with the best of them. I've started ploughing through James A. Corey's Expanse books now having got well past the first three TV series. (There are two more but I can't find them.)

For style and characters, the series is up there with Firefly, sadly terminated by unimaginative studio types. (Although the feature film did much to round the story off.) :|

Been watching a detective series on Amazon Prime called 'Bosch.' Set in Los Angeles Bosch is a veteran homicide cop who is honest, but tends to go off the reservation when it suits him. A good cast, good writing, particularly of dialogue to say nothing of the overall storylines (some of which extend through different series.)
I particularly like his house, which is one of those built up on stilts on the side of high ground and has glass walls overlooking the city. If I lived there, I doubt I'd ever go to bed the view is so astounding.

Spotted channel 4 advertising a drama about Stafford Hospital and Julie Bailey. Funny how Cure the NHS led us to where we are now...

Just watched Elizabeth is Missing after recording it a week or so ago. WOW, powerhouse performance from Glenda Jackson, although very sad.

She looks a little frail, but she's still got it at 83. :welldone:

After almost bone breaking threats in the pub about the BBC version of A Christmas Carol over the holiday period I decided to at least watch first episode.

I started to watch and ended binging all three episodes !! Quite the Dickensian setting but reflecting the current age in sharp angled mirrors. I found it almost compulsive viewing (had to run back and forth from the fridge to renew supplies of ballast) and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not sure what Dickens would have made of it, (pretty sure the Daily Mail would be appalled by it) but good television of an old tale which, but for the heavies in the pub, I wouldn't have bothered watching. That would have been my loss … but … definitely not a version for the very young.

BBC4 Invisible Italian Cities. Utterly mind boggling !!!

The Romans didn't just build up and across … they build down as well !!

Vesuvius is a mighty volcano .. but it's a whiz bang compared to the super volcano that lies deep down directly under Naples.

Ancient history coupled with modern scanning technology … I'm gobsmacked !!

I watched 'The Favourite' tonight. WOW !!! I can see why Olivia Colman got the Oscar, but Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone also play at the top of their game. For some reason Sky describe this film as a 'comedy,' can't help but think that up in the Sky is where they are on that one …
I don't know enough about the history of this period to put it in context (it's a story as such, not a history lesson, although I think they got the Tories right on the nail,) but very stylish direction .. sometimes a bit overly so for me. Two films it reminded me of in terms of vision: 'Barry Lyndon' from Stanley Kubrick and 'The Duellists' from Ridley Scott.
Your view of the principal characters shifts through 180 degrees as the film progresses. That makes for good story telling.
