Plans for Designer Outlet Village - Cannock

An exciting development for Cannock, handy to have something like this close by if it comes off.

Not having a car makes this sort of place irrelevant to me, I'd like to say I hope it doesn't have a negative impact on our own town then remembered there is virtually nothing in Stafford I'd buy anyway* so it probably doesn't matter.

* Apart from food the only places likely to get my custom are millets/trespass kinda places.

I mentioned this the other week on the "Primark taking over Debenhams" thread when I said that Cannock were getting a Ralph Lauren and we couldnt even get a Debenhams.

Enjoying a drop of red.
There's something seriously wrong somewhere when a place like Cannock can attract 'posh' shops but Stafford can't.

I own a rental property immediately opposite this proposed development and I am torn as to whether I'm in favour of this proposal or not. The thought of some designer shops is very appealing, however the site is located immediately adjacent to a nature reserve and the site itself is on an attractive area of green space.

The site does have a number of locational advantages because of its location near to the M6, M6 Toll and a number of A roads, however I can't help but think that the developers have chosen this site based on its location without knowing anything about 'Cannock'.

Out of interest, if this development was proposed in Stafford on land immediately adjacent a nature reserve. What would people's views be then?

But these places are contained, and have little to do with the nearby population - you also forgot Cannock Chase is quite a big tourist draw I can easily see families doing a quick walk, maybe Shugborough and then a visit to the outlet village for a late dinner and a mooch around the shops.

If it was anywhere but brownfield I'd probably object, but I'm certainly not their target demographic.

I agree that the site has a number of locational advantages, including its proximity to Cannock Chase, Shugborough. However, I am not yet convinced that this site is the best location for this development (even though I'm sure it would enhance the rentability and saleability of my property). I would prefer to see this village located on land behind Cannock Sainsbury's, immediately off the A5 and M6 Toll or in Stafford so its to near to where I now live (for purely selfish reasons).

As you acknowledge Wormella, this development is likely to have little to do with the local population so why does it need to be located on the edge of the town next to the only nature reserve in the centre of Cannock.

Because shopping at somewhere like this is aspirational, and a destination - it's not about being practical.

I would argue that the shopping village itself is aspirational and a destination. Also the practicalities of travelling to the proposed site and the alternative site that I mentioned are negligible. So, I return to my original question why this site, given that the availability of other (more suitable) sites elsewhere in Cannock(?).

Stafford- Cannock buses are available but it would be a long walk in Cannock and bus travel ?? There are some train services which do Stafford-Rugeley Trent Valley then Rugeley Trent Valley-Cannock which would get you close to the new development and take 30-40 mins. Yeah, better stick to Stafford.

TBH anything out of town is irrelevant to me as I'll rarely go there, but then anything in town is irrelevant if you have a car as the place is a nightmare the second someone farts on the M6.

Will it compete with the big ones McArthurGlen Designer Outlets. They seem to be springing up everywhere a couple of shops and its designer outlet

Its not too far from the town centre with decent access and transport links. Not sure behind sainsburys would be a good idea as its too far out and there was little to no public transport to that area.

To be honest it will have its pros and cons the town centre will probably be on its knees once this proposal comes to fruition. The aspirational effect of this will mean other towns such as stafford have to raise its game in a retail point of view.

Such forward thinking in the cannock area hasnt been seen since pritchard ran out of monopoly money

It's all designed around an alien space craft which will, at the moment of the invasion, rise up and orchestrate the incoming craft to suck up anyone who is not a size 12 and spit them out over the North Sea

But you probably already knew that
