That's what I'm normally like! Then I'm usually glad that I did go in the end... Go and have a great night out @Gadget :xmas:

Feeling worse this morning afer a booze free night, but sleeping on the settee because of hubbys 'house shaking 'snoring , and still hearing his snoring from downstairs all through the night

Can now relax knowing that son has made it back down home down the motorway safely . Getting a bit worried with him on hands free phone calls during the journey telling me how frustrated he was with the slow moving and stop start traffic . Told him at least he was moving every now and then, and just important he got there safely in the end. (Took me 3hr + on some occassions to do the 60 mile journey. That reminds me... must get my emergency ice-cream tub portaloo back in the car ... never actually used it yet, just incase I'm desperate and brave enough to, instead of sitting crossed legged in agony .... )

Lost my keys on Xmas eve :(
Oh no :(

We were lucky Xmas eve , gave son our keys in the pub to go back home to get changed for a night out with his mates. He brought the keys back up to the pub, then luckily realised the ones he was bringing for us to get back in were actually his own house keys. With his phone dead, we might have been sitting on the doorstep for hours

Off to Fracture clinic today with minime, fingers crossed...

Hope all goes well for you and minime  @littleme

We were in Leicester yesterday (Christmas Day).
Son is now a pub landlord, running a pub in Leicester city centre. The pub was open yesterday so over we went to spend time with him and some of the locals.
He’s expecting the pub to be busy today and this evening with all the sport on (he shows it on tv in one area of the pub) especially with the Leicester/Liverpool match tonight.
Then tomorrow we’re having our Christmas Day at home with the turkey, the presents, the fizz etc.

Just prepped the turkey and the veg for tomorrow, so today feels like Christmas Eve.

I wish him the best of luck with his new venture!

I hope it goes well! Xxx

Back in Cornwall after some disturbing M5 driving in fog at 5 am. Crossed the Avonmouth bridge into drizzle which was welcome after the fog.

Was I ever glad to get home so went down the pub at midday and joked at the landlord for wearing a tie. “I usually do for funerals” he replied.

Went home and crashed for the afternoon.

Clearly not my day :gonk:

Thank you. I know that you met Alex in Edinburgh so I’ll pass on your good wishes.

The pub thing happened very quickly, he was given an opportunity and completely thrown in at the deep end.
But Alex has always been up for a challenge and the time was right so he’s giving it his best shot.
The pub is doing well and he’s enjoying it.

He’s still doing his comedy and looking forward to The Leicester Comedy festival in February.

Well done to your son @Carole

That was always my dream in my younger days, to own my own pub . I used to enjoy my barmaid days, even though the landlord was strict Major Carey in the Crossbow . Hubby wouldn't take the risk and sell up though to take the plunge.

(Couldn't think of your sons name the other day when telling son about him being a pub landlord. Glad you have just refreshed my memory :) )

So, new van, and you just have to see what it will do, don't you, but I still don't know as the screaming from the missus as it touched 90 on the stone rd put me right off my concentration, I got back in Ruby to move her today and after driving Lily (not certain if that's her name yet), I wonder how I ever managed to drive her, talk about heavy steering, and the clutch needs an elephants foot to move it, I may sneak onto that stretch between Stone and Haywood on my own to really let Lily warm up her feet.

Just making my Christmas Dinner Soup.
My own recipe which is basically “chuck everything you have left in a cauldron.”

Turkey carcass, onions, leeks, potoates, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, parsnips, stuffing, turkey stock (saved from the cooked turkey), added water and boiled it all up until the meat fell off the bone.
When it’s cool I’ll take the bones out and put it into Tupperware containers and freeze it.

Later on tonight I’m making mushroom and turkey stroganoff.
Tomorrow it’s turkey pies, and if there’s anything left there will be turkey curry.

I’ve saved some of the soggy underneath bits of turkey and mixed it with cooked rice and carrots, enough dog fog food for 9 days.
Not one bit of our Christmas dinner gets wasted, every single thing gets used.

And now, husband is out at the football, I’m going to put my pyjamas on and open a well deserved bottle of fizz and sit down with a book.
Bliss.

Thanks @staffordjas

Alex doesn’t own his own pub, (Yet!).
He’s a tenant landlord running a pub, The Salmon, in Leicester which is a Black Country Ales pub.
It’s a great way to start out, he gets to see how it all works, and if he likes it, without actually taking the gamble of purchasing a lease or buying a pub.

Black Country Ales are a chain, so he’s got people there in the background helping him and the more he sells, the more he earns so the incentive is there to make a success of it.

Some of you will know Black Country Ales, it’s the same group that own two Stafford pubs... The Bird in Hand and The Shrewsbury Arms.
